ABOUT:
Current favs in the earring department! (Do I overuse the "favorite" label in my listings?? I just love them all so much, it doesn't take long for me to find one new favorite after another. : )

I call these my antique diamond SPIKE earrings. Super unique in design, with large round clusters at the top leading to a slightly recessed long and tapering line of diamonds. Wonderful antique sparkle with a timeless, almost modern and edgy design. Hadn't seen anything like them before. I purchased these in France. So bright and sparkly and fun to wear, dressed up or down.

Completely encrusted in rose cut diamonds, each earring set with 37 of them so 74 in all - wow the sparkle of 4 carats total of old cut diamonds - almost blinding in the sun! I'm in heaven. The top fabulous clusters hold three halos of old rose cuts, each range slightly elevated above the next, to give the earrings a delicate dome. Below the clusters extend the spike which is topped in a white precious metal (white gold or platinum) with milgrain details. The top cluster of diamonds are prong set in yellow gold so they have a two tone look. The antique gold has a rich buttery glow with warm highlights from age and patina.

These are made with a lever back hoop that closes against an ear post. There are no push backs on these, you just run the post through the ear and flip up the latch on the back to hold them in place.

There is no damage to the posts, what you might see in pics (looks like a little ripple) is actually the French hallmark for 18k gold.

Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included, unfortunately I don't have an antique earring box large enough to house them.

MEASUREMENTS:

Top to bottom each is 2.4 inches long. Each round cluster is 15mm east west. They dome 8mm deep from the back of the cluster to the top diamond (not including the hinge or post.) The pair weighs a sturdy 9.7 grams combined.

Most of the diamonds are around 2 to 3mm. With a handful at 4mm and a handful at 1.7mm. The 44 diamonds in the cluster each measure 2.2mm. Exact depths and thereby carat weight is not known as I would never remove them but just using online estimates by mm, I am getting around 4 carats total weight in diamonds for the pair.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

All my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. The hinges and latches are in better than most condition considering age. They function perfectly with tension and hold securely.

I don't see any welds or repairs but there are some worn prongs here and there and a few stones move or shift slightly. None of course come free but it is something to keep an eye on over time. Earrings end up pretty gently worn anyway (compared to rings) and of course these days we don't recommend all night 24/7 wear on these antique pieces. The wear to the gold is what we expect to see on pieces of this age, so if desired, some of the prongs may need reinforcing for daily wear. This can always be done - (you'd want to find a jeweler with a laser welder). But while many modern jewelers may advise you to make it "like new" many of my buyers prefer keeping the piece in original condition and wearing it more gently. So I am selling them in original condition.

One of the diamonds appears to be a replacement, appears to be a transitional cut. On the other earring is a unique old mine cut with a flat back that has a table. Definitely an antique stone custom cut, I don't know if it was a replacement or just the goldsmith of the time using what they had available.

Typical antique diamonds with some warm hues, some natural inclusions, most of them are frosty specks here or there, either not eye visible or only slightly eye visible (they do not all have inclusions, just pointing out that some do.) No glaring or dark carbon inclusions.

There are some nibbles to the girdle edges, some nicks and small chips, a shallow flake of loss leaving a frosty surface to part of a stone here or there. The stones still appear compete and round to the eye, I don't see any cracks or half stones, but if you catch the surface up close in a reflection you can see rougher cuts, this is mostly seen with a loupe / strong magnification. Considering age - all things we expect to see on antique rose cut diamonds. They have a very beautiful sparkle. Attention grabbing and wearable to dress up or down.

But of course Due to age, please note this is not a mint condition item. Feel free to request additional photos and videos as I have many others besides the 10 allowed here.

I dearly love, collect, use and sell antiques so please check out my other listings and thanks so much for stopping by my shop!
