Note that the top pearl has been replaced. I didn't originally notice it so I photographed it prior to realizing. I have replaced it so it is complete now, appearing as in the cover pics, but I liked the lighting of some of the other pics for the garnets so I included them as well. Just ignore the missing pearl in those shots as it is no longer missing : )
"SPRINGTIME!" With the winter temps this week, we're all waiting for it! This French antique pendant from the Belle Epoque period has a rich 18k gold medallion at center with intricate details of an Art Nouveau woman, with flowers behind and the French word "Printemps" for "Spring/ Springtime" on one side.
The French Art Nouveau artists of the time created a lot of images like these, but what makes this piece special is the incredible halo of natural pinkish purple garnets including the collet set dangle at the bottom. Little tiny seed pearls are interspersed around the outline. (I just noticed one at the top is missing so I'll try to find a replacement to pop in there before shipping it, just wanted to get it listed as I have done all the photographing and hadn't even noticed it prior.)
The color of the gold and the juicy gemstones is literally mouthwatering. And it always amazes me to see how these garnets can emit sparkle even with their rich jewel tone hues.
It is a nice size piece and incredibly eye catching.
I can't find any hallmarks but no mistaking the solid gold and textbook French design, where the standard is 18k gold and tested to confirm.
Chain in photos is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Some of my buyers "draw out" an example to get an idea of scale in person.
MEASUREMENTS:
The pendant is 61x27mm, not including the dangling larger dangling jump ring. At least a few carats of garnets as the largest flat cut garnet at the bottom measures 8x6mm alone.
It weighs 6 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
There is a linear impression through the word Printemps but it almost looks like it was done in the making, or at least was 100 years ago as it has smoothed out and doesn't appear as a sharp scratch, rather just a line.
No damage to the stones, no chips and no real abrasions. I will replace the missing pearl. Can't find such gorgeous patina on modern gold! A head turner for sure!
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : ) There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings including the green trees out the window.
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
