ABOUT:
Wonderful French Victorian era Perpignan garnet earrings with domed foiled backs surrounded by ruffled gold work resembling a flower or sunburst. Adds a nice size to the glowing stones.
These French garnets are a huge passion of mine because I love garnets and I love French jewelry, and the Perpignan garnets to me are just incomparable to put it bluntly. In olden times Perpignan Garnets were thought to cure blood disorders and excessive anger, and symbolized constancy and loyalty. They are named as such for the region where they were mined in the South of France. They are known for their beautiful color and brilliance, along with the way the stones were cut.
They have a wonderful red glow from within and a beautiful patina to the 18k gold.
Would be a beautiful something old for a bride.

Really nice condition too. The hinges are super springy and secure, with the lever backs snapping closed to the ear post securely.
Antique box in photos is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
They measure about 16mm top to bottom, 15mm east west. Combined weight is 3.9g
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
As with all my pieces this is in estate condition. Not much to report, they are in exceptional condition considering age. Just warm patina in the recesses of the gold work from age. The stones, foil back and lever / latch backs are in really nice shape. What you see in the pics of the backs is not a repair, this is how we often see antique Perpignan garnet pieces fabricated with the with gold posts or wire connecting to a loop. As with all my pre-owned pieces - Please note this is not a mint condition item.
