ABOUT:

A gorgeous Iberian antique ring with large footprint on the finger. The piece is set with nine table cut diamonds in closed back silver collet settings. The shank and base of the ring face is 18k gold. The backs are domed and lined with foil to add sparkle to the old table cuts, which read quite bright compared to many we see where the foil is rusted dark.

These table cut diamonds are one of the earlier methods of diamond cutting and are quite collectible. The ring face likely dates to the 1700s.

Found in Paris. Later French hallmarks for 18k gold and silver.

Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included.

MEASUREMENTS:
Size 7 1/2
Ring face: 22mm north south by 20mm, the largest center diamond is about 3.8mm, the others 3 to 3.5mm with the smallest ones in between measuring about 1.5mm. Carat weight is unknown as they widen out an unknown amount in the collet settings and the depth is unknown as I would not remove them.
Weight: 6.3g.

CONDITION NOTES:

The larger diamonds are in nice condition with just a frosty corner facet here or there and one with a small chip to one corner emerging from under the collet so it is really only seen under magnification. Two of the smallest diamonds have chips but they are so small that it isn't really noticeable. The center diamond has an interruption to the table facet in one spot, the result of an inclusion carrying up to the surface. So it is an indented natural inclusions that was polished around. A few spots of fog or discoloration here or there but the foil is relatively bright for age, not reading muddy or dark. There is some solder inside the ring face at the shoulders. This is not visible when wearing but it leads me to believe that the shank is later than the ring face.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
