I have been dragging my feet on listing this one because it is so fun to wear. Two especially chunky and fiery antique old mine cuts are the star of the show in the rectangular ring face with each stone sitting north south in square bezels. The high crowns on these really catch the light when viewed from the side. The openwork forked shoulders lead to an old single cut diamond accent on each shoulder, but the setting is light and airy allowing the center diamonds to really steal the show.
It wears like a romantic "toi et moi" ring ("you and me") where each stone represents half of the couple. It also has a great geometric vibe. Art deco era piece found in France, crafted in 18k white gold and platinum. It is hallmarked as such (platinum mark worn but fabrication is clear) along with a goldsmith stamp.
I love antique diamonds, even those with inclusions or hues typical for the time, because some of those were still among the best available in the market during that period, and were expertly cut by hand to enhance their best characteristics. So I don’t often like to compare antique stones against modern grading standards - BUT these diamond, for old stones have particularly lovely fire shooting out a great sparkle with the other colors of the rainbow. It was actually quite noticeable, especially while trying to photograph it. They also have a bright white color so even though the stone was made long before the 4 C's existed, it sparkles really beautifully. I'm amazed by it now as I wear it in low light how glittery and bright it still is.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included.
MEASUREMENTS:
Currently measures a snug size 7. It weighs a 3.5 grams. Ring face is 13mm north to south by 6.2mm. The diamond are each about 5mm and around .7 and .75 carat each for an estimated total of 1.5 carats with the side accents. I would not remove them for an exact measurement.
CONDITION NOTES:
One of the large diamonds is eye clean, the other has two half moon shaped crystal speck inclusions down near the culet within the stone, these can reflect around within the stone somewhat multiplying under magnification. They can sometimes catch the light when looking through the stone and are eye visible. We see this sometimes with antique stones. I love this one! Very slight warmth as seen in the video really only in direct sunlight, but facing up bright white in most other light.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
