TREE Stump VICTORIAN Tri Color 14k Gold Old Mine Cut Diamond ANTIQUE Figural Pendant

Those clever Victorians created the most whimsical figural and novelty jewelry! And this piece has additional textbook features from the period - the use of tri-colored gold and their fascination with nature in the motif.

Tri-colored gold is a favorite of mine in my personal collection, the subtle accent of the beautiful hues are just so lovely. This tree trunk / stump has incredible detail with rose gold vine and green gold ivy leaves wrapping around against the background of the beautifully detailed rich yellow gold stump. It has the most wonderful texture and is set with an old mine cut diamond for sparkle in a starburst bezel. Completely 3D / reversible, it is beautiful from all angles - I love the underside with the engraved growth lines / tree rings!

A tree motif was a symbol of both eternity and humanity, recalling the Bible’s tree of life and tree of knowledge. It may also have been a mourning piece representing joining nature after death or even a life cut too short. The vine is also representative with the ivy motif symbolizing life and eternity (essentially immortality), along with clinging attachment. It also was used to express fidelity and friendship.

Found on a recent inventory trip to Texas. Great for a neckmess as it is reversible with just such amazing and intricate detail.

Antique boxes, pendants / displays and any additional items in photos are not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.

MEASUREMENTS:
12mm end to end and 14mm deep.
Weight is 2.8 grams. The diamond is about 2.5mm.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Typical antique diamond with a natural inclusions through one side. Under magnification it almost looks like a frosty flake but if you study it you can see the facets are polished and it is within the stone. It is not a big stone so it is barely eye visible.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
