TRIANGLE Diamond Green EMERALD Art Deco to Antique Three Stone Gypsy Ring French 18k Gold Wide Band Natural
TRIANGLE Diamond Green EMERALD Art Deco to Antique Three Stone Gypsy Ring French 18k Gold Wide Band Natural
THE LONG AND SHORT OF IT ~
ABOUT:
Unique shapes with a fun pop of color! I love the versatility and stackability of gypsy bands, especially the chunky ones that also make a statement alone, and this one is quite special. I have found it somewhat uncommon to find Emerald gypsy bands, (I most often find them with sapphires or just diamonds) so I was thrilled to find this one not only with an emerald but with the unique triangle cut diamonds on each side. Hallmarked for French 18k gold, it has a nice and sturdy hand feel. The French don't use date marks but I believe this is an older piece. The uniquely shaped cutouts behind the diamonds are a fabrication I've seen on some of my other antique pieces, and the triangle cut diamonds don't have as many facets as a modern triangle cut has. One also has an open culet giving it the appearance of a triangular old mine cut diamond. It also has the organic signs of age of an older piece so with the geometric design I'm thinking maybe Art Deco? Soft and warm glowing yellow gold from the uniform wear softening the glossy shank and age related patina richening the gold.
It is pretty fabulous and a lot of fun to wear. The diamonds read quite gray, I think from being flush set deeply into the gold. I would not remove them to analyze them but the piece has a moody vibe with more subtle sparkle and the darker hues. A great unisex design.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size 8 1/4, the face is 7mm north to south tapering towards the back and stands 3.2mm off the finger. It weighs a sturdy 6.3 grams. The diamond are about 3.5mm and the emerald is about 4mm.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
All my pieces are preowned and in estate condition. As mentioned the diamonds read gray and are flush set into the ring face. The emerald has abrasions all over the table facet giving the facets a matte finish in the light. Some natural inclusions. The emerald also has one shallow chip to the edge facet but it does not affect the girdle of the stone so it still appears complete and uniformly square to the eye since it fits the setting and you only see the shallow flake of loss if you really study the edge. Some build up behind the diamonds, I had trouble reaching in and around the back opening and I don't like to aggressively clean my antiques. There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings, including the trees outside the window. Fun one to wear and stack, never seen one with coloring like this before!
But as with all my estate pieces - Please note this is not a mint condition item. I have additional photos/video besides those allowed here so feel free to request additional.
Thanks so much for looking at my items!
