ABOUT:
Unique antique buttercup ring with special rose cut diamond and a nice large ring face. What is interesting is the shield shaped 6mm rose cut diamond at the center cut with 6 shallow facets and shape almost reminiscent of a portrait cut diamond. The diamond is sliced thin with a large flat table, again like a portrait cut and in a closed setting with foiled back. Always fun to find uniquely cut antique diamonds!
When looking straight down it appears a warm champagne color because you can look straight through it. When you angle it, the top facets catch the light for the subtle sparkle. In warm antique 18k gold with rosy highlights. With some linear enamel work at the shoulders for an additional design accent.
French hallmark for 18k import with other hallmarks I could not identify.
The diamond is perfect with no nicks, chips, frosty spots to the stone. It read with some cloudiness and warmth from age to the foil back and small spotting inside seen under mag. Some loss to enamel. Just subtle stripes remain still visible at shoulder. Diamond is very secure in collet setting, prongs in good shape.
Antique box is not included.
MEASUREMENTS:
Sz 8 ¼, ring face is 12mm north south, and stands 4.7mm tall, weight is 3.8g.
The Diamond 6x5.5mm. Like most rose cuts it has a lower comparative carat weight than a modern diamond but the surface area gives it the appearance of a larger carat stone. A round modern brilliant diamond with 1 carat total weight has a diameter of around 6.5mm for comparison's sake and to give you an idea of scale.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
