ABOUT:
The prettiest little French antique floral cluster earrings from Paris. Lovely sparkle and design. Each earring holds nine rose cut diamonds, the center slightly raised. The gold work creates a star design extending out from the center.
Such lovely design elements to these ever popular French dormeuse. Crafted in 18k gold. These are from the Victorian to Edwardian period. Lattice gallery underneath the face of the earrings and lovely lever backs that spring back into place. A bit easier to insert and wear than the ones that have to be inserted from the back of the ear.
Found in France with their hallmarks for 18k gold.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos, especially with the zoomed images that I am required to present for detail.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
The clusters are 11.1mm in diameter. They are 14mm from the top of the ear wire to the bottom of the cluster. The tiered cluster portions have a depth of 5.9mm (not including the hinged backs).
The center diamonds of each are 3.5 and 3.7mm. The outlining diamonds are about 2.9 to 3.5mm each give or take. Carat weight is unknown as they are all freeform in shape with varying depths and I would never remove them but they face up similar to a 1.75 carat pair compared to modern diamonds. Actual carat weight is much less due to the rose cuts being spready disks with no pavilions.
The pair weighs 2.9 grams combined.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
The diamonds on these are all quite frosty. Freeform in shape, rough cuts with unpolished areas, plenty of natural inclusions and uneven edges. They are rough cut and imperfect, meant to add glints of sparkle under candlelight and firelight.
The ear post has the hooked end to latch into the lever back but they more nest in, rather than actually hooking or latching in, but the there is good tension and springy tightness to the lever backs to keep them closed on the ear. Many of the outlining gold prongs are worn but all the stones are still held in place and do not move. They wear securely but always recommend a gentle hand with these 125+ year old pieces with moving parts and small gold hinges. I never recommend these for 24/7 wear but nice to find sturdy hinges and a strong lever back.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
