ABOUT:

I am a huge fan of juicy carbuncle cabochon garnets and this is a special one due to provenance in that it was made by Ostby & Barton. This Victorian antique ring wears as a beautifully large bauble with deep crimson garnet with red wine glow from within, doming out of the bezel setting.

The piece is hallmarked for Ostby and Barton with the addition of the Maltese Cross, which is the mark for the designer Englehart Ostby. Meaning, that it was his design and creation (not just a later company piece) and that it was therefore made before he sadly perished aboard the Titanic in 1912.

Ostby & Barton company was established in 1879 making their pieces interesting and collectible in their own right for their beautiful craftsmanship. But further interest in these pieces is due to the Titanic connection, making it appealing to collectors in that area as well.

Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pics. Antique boxes, props, staircases and bannisters ; ) not included.

MEASUREMENTS:
Size 6 1/4 The garnet is 17x13mm and stands 7mm off the finger, the piece weighs 5.4g.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Amazing sheen and polish on the garnet for apiece of this age.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

I would be delighted if you'd follow me in my shop. Thanks for stopping by!
