ADJUSTABLE Length 18k Tri Color Gold ANTIQUE Fine Mesh Chain Necklace Bracelet Rare Pendant Holder Slide Georgian Victorian Triple Foxtail
ABOUT:
This is a unique antique chain that has so many things going for it! First, and very uncommon to find, it is adjustable in length! It can be made shorter or longer by adjusting the little slides on each side (kind of like a friendship bracelet construction : ). So it can be a choker, a longer length layering chain, and even wrapped double to be worn as a bracelet.
Crafted in rich and glowing 18k yellow gold, the chain is a fine mesh made of three smaller foxtail chains interwoven together. The slides each have little floral details with green and rose gold accents. At the center is the largest slide which has a curled hook at the base, perfect for adding pendants and charms (or in the antique period, possibly a pocket watch).
Just really special and intricate fabrication. Found in Paris, I purchased it from a quite high end place who dated the piece to around the year 1830. It is Victorian era 1800s at the very latest.
It layers beautifully and is so versatile to swap out pendants and adjust lengths with what works best in your neckmess / neckstack / wriststack.
French hallmarks for 18k gold on both ends.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Additional chains and charms are not included.
MEASUREMENTS:
It weighs 16g. Stretched end to end at its longest, it is 21 3/4 inches in length and can be adjusted down to as short as 11 inches, and I can wrap it double around my wrist and wear it as a bracelet. The triple foxtail chain is about 3mm wide. The largest slide at center is 15mm north south with the hook.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. Beautiful rich patina that has warmed the 18k gold - it has a beautiful glow. Considering age and intricate fabrication - there are no welds or repairs which is amazing to find on a piece of this age. Some signs of it being worn from age, where there is a very slight / gradual curve, or a ripple here or there but still very stable. A spot of discoloration or patina, I didn't clean it. The clasp works very well and snaps tightly closed.
The side slides seem to have tension enough to hold the chain in place to whatever length. Now this may be affected by adding a heavy pendant that could drag when worn and pull the adjustable sides together, but in handling it, it was holding its assigned length. Please of course use a gentle hand considering the fine mesh chain being around 200 years old. But with the triple mesh fabrication it is actually quite stable. Special fabrication, certainly the only one of its kind I have seen.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
My disclaimer with all my pieces - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition.
