ABOUT:
You all know I love my garnets! And this one piece is covered in them! 46 almandine garnets in circular milgrain bezels drape all the way around the neck to the hidden gemset clasp at the back. It has an added safety chain with loop and T bar. Also unique in that there is a little hook at the base of the center garnet, from which you can hang a pendant and swap them out easily. It could easily be nipped off as well if it is not preferred but it's a fun option to have to be able to mix and match pendants with this fabulous garnet chain. Delicious red coloring with some natural variations to the natural stones - some a bit more berry in color, others a warmer red.
I found this one on my recent inventory trip to France but it wasn't made there as it tests at 14k gold. The safety chain tests at 18k gold. It's interesting they have the rose cut faceting of the Perpignan garnets but does not have the foil backed fabrication.
It definitely has some age to it but it is in such good condition that I'm not sure if it extends to the antique period. Definitely vintage, definitely beautiful. I'm just not exactly sure how old it is.
Gorgeous piece to add color to a stack and can be dressed up or down. No detectible hallmarks but tested multiple places with kee tester and acid test for 14k gold, and 18k on the safety chain which has a slightly different hue.
MEASUREMENTS:
It weighs 20 grams. It is a little about 16 3/4 inches long end to end.
Each stone is about 6mm. I didn't measure each one, but just using the most conservative measurements comparing it to a millimeter to carat chart it is likely over 35 carats.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
A few natural inclusions seen mostly under magnification and some color variances to the stones when studying in direct light but overall well matching with normal wear.
No major damage or deep nicks and no chips, they have a lovely sheen and polish.
Clasp isn't super clicky but when it is inserted it does not come free and the safety chain is there as well. No notable damage.
Please also note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and movement, but it does appear darker in color with normal day to day wear in ambient light and the direct sunshine can highlight the nibbles and inclusions more than with normal wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
