ABOUT:

It is my exciting goal to have one of these in my personal collection some day - just so fun to wear out and about with the most amazing sparkle of the six carats of old cut stones! This gorgeous antique hinged bangle bracelet has the top completely encrusted in old cut diamonds, propped up and slightly splayed. There are fifteen larger cushion cut old mine cuts and then between each stone, the prongs are gemset with 28 rose cut diamond spacers for additional glints of sparkle. We usually see this fabrication on five stone diamond band rings, so it is fun to see it incorporated into the bracelet to completely encrust the top with glitter.

Found in Switzerland, the piece is engraved inside with a name and "Tour-de-Peilz" which is a municipality in Switzerland so perhaps it was purchased or given as a souvenir.

The piece is stamped 750 which is the numerical hallmarking system used in Europe, in this case 18k gold. It has a beautiful rosy patina from age. The prongs are in silver as was customary for the period to set diamonds in a white metal.

The diamonds taper in size becoming larger towards the top / center of the bracelet. The diamonds being the star of the show, settle in nicely amidst the silver, making this one wearable even in a silver, platinum, white gold or gold wrist stack where the diamonds can add the attention grabbing glitter effect.

Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.

MEASUREMENTS:

Substantial enough to wear alone as well, measuring 6.5mm north south at the widest area and stands 6.8mm tall off the wrist.
It's difficult to measure the exact inside circumference but it is around 7 inches. My husband has about a 6 1/2 inch wrist using a tape measure tight around the narrowest part of the wrist and it works well on that size wrist without spinning around. I have a 5 1/2 inch wrist and it is too large for me. The inside measurements measuring the cross sections (to compare with your bracelets at home) are 62mm by 51mm.

The safety chain is about 3 1/2 inches long and allows the bracelet to open wider to slide over the larger part of the hand.

It weighs 20.75 grams.

The old mine cuts are hand cut with the majority being cushion cut, so they vary in length, width and depth. They start at 4mm (and around .25 carat each) tapering up to 5.7mm (and up to .67 carat each). The 28 rose cut spacers are small, about 1mm each.
I would never remove the diamonds from the antique piece for an exact measurement, but I measured each stone under magnification coming to a total of right around 6 carats total weight in antique diamonds.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

The push button clasp works perfectly and snaps very securely into place.

Typical antique hand cut diamonds with some slightly warm hues here and there but overall well matching and the chunky sparkle that these antique diamonds display reflects the light differently so as to face up brighter. This is partly because most of the rough diamonds at that time came from mines that produced warmer-colored diamonds. The center stone has a gorgeous pale yellow hue which I and many collectors love to find. These were cut long before the "Four C's" scale was invented for modern machine cut diamonds with their mathematically perfected facets. The modern grading scale for diamonds doesn't typical do justice to the uniqueness of these stones that were hand cut with methods and standards no longer practiced.

Also typical for antique stones, some have light natural inclusions, most being eye clean to slightly eye visible inclusions, and just a few with eye visible light frosty inclusions. No large dark carbon spots. A tiny nibble here or there under strong magnification, nothing eye visible. None of the diamonds are chipped or cracked with loss - they all fill the bezels and have retained their original shape so any spots of loss are very flea bites but studying it under magnification I really did not see much for damage.

Typical old rose cut diamonds with some inclusions, nicks, frosty and irregular edges or shapes, likely have always been that way as they were rough cut by hand. They are small so this is not really visible to the eye, they just add a nice little glint of sparkle. They tend to always look like this in the gemset prong / spacer application.

I do think this old beauty should have gentler wear as it is in all original condition and we can see wear to the prongs. None of the stones move but you can see a prong here or there worn back to the settings of many of the larger stones. And when it comes to the gemset prongs, the little are diamonds are pretty much pressed in there. Considering age this is pretty much always advised on antiques. Some reinforcement can always be done but most of my customers prefer original condition.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
