ABOUT:

LOVE jewelry with words! I have a few Amitie pieces in my own collection - translating to "Friendship" - such as lovely sentiment. This little perfume / scent bottle is the perfect size for a pendant and would make the most interesting, one of a kind conversation piece to wear. I could see it worn with some small gems inside like a shaker locket.

It's amazing that this piece is almost 200 years old. And how wonderful that it is wearable! Special craftsmanship with beautiful color and light catching ability. This perfume or scent bottle may also have been worn on a chatelaine as a vinaigrette, to hold to the nose when passing pungent areas in the street in the days before modern plumbing.

The gold screw top has a loop to wear on a chain and bears the French hallmarks for 18k gold used in the early 1800s. I suspect it dates to the 1830s because it also has their other gold hallmark, like it was made during the transition period between the two stamps.

Special fabrication the way they created the green and gold "Amitie" decoration and somehow set it within the glass - as it is not applied to the surface, nor is it reverse applied, but rather both the front and back of the Amitie stamp is encased in the glass. With the color and pattern in the recesses of the green, I suspect it might be enamel. I am not a glass expert so I don't know if it would classify as crystal or cut glass, etc. but it's beautiful for sure!

Antique boxes / props, chains or other items in group shot not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos, especially with the zoomed images that I am required to present for detail.

MEASUREMENTS:

37mm to the top of the loop, the bottle is 24mm wide and 10mm deep. It weighs 8.4 grams.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

An impression to one spot of the lid and some antique patina. A bit of residue inside. Plenty of nibbles that look like frosty areas of abrasions on the raised edges of the piece but considering age, I would say it is appropriate wear and the piece overall has a lovely sheen and color, it is not dull in any way. A few deeper chips to the raised, beveled edges but no cracks or glaring wear, you really have to seek them out. For 200 years it has held up quite well. Lid opens and closes securely although I am not sure if it is water tight. Some discoloration and tiny bubbles where the loop was added to the lid when the piece was fabricated.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
