ABOUT:
This one is quite the bauble! Nice size and attention grabbing sparkle to this French antique rose cut diamond cluster ring. These are difficult to find in open back settings - so often rose cuts are in foiled settings. And the center stone is eye clean!

The piece is in 18k gold with the diamonds set in platinum as was customary for the period to set the stones in a white metal. The rose cuts vary in form, the center being the wonderful crystal clear disco ball with thick frosted girdle. It is also very fiery, shooting out little rainbows that were even captured in the pics! With the eight outlining diamonds, these are all clustered together on the tall ring face which holds them up in the crown like setting.

Super eye catching and very sparkly - a fun piece to wear! Varying depths to the diamonds giving it the classic daisy cluster appearance. I just love the untamed, some would say moody appearance of old rose cut diamonds.

I loved this one so much when I saw it that.... I overpaid for it. : ) Whoopsie! Well it happens sometimes. So having paid retail price for it, I am selling it at break even / exactly what I paid for it (and a loss after fees). So you can have it with no finder's fee, as if you were right there with me in France buying it first hand! : )

Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.

MEASUREMENTS:
Size 7 3/4

The ring face is 13.4mm north south and 6.5mm tall off the finger.
Exact carat weight is unknown, they are not all perfectly round and the depth of each is varied as some are sliced quite thin. But using estimations for rose cuts, I am getting around one carat total weight.
The center diamond is 5.7mm with quite a thick girdle. The other outlining diamonds are 2.8mm each give or take.
Like most rose cuts these have a lower comparative carat weight than a modern stone, but the surface area gives it the appearance of a larger carat stone. If these were brilliant cuts with pavilions below the stones, it would be about 1.4 carat total weight in diamonds so that gives you an idea of how it "faces up" size wise.
The ring weight is 4.25 grams.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

These rose cut clusters with open backs are difficult to find which is why I jumped on it when I saw it. With the open back and for the most part strong platinum prongs, it is ready for regular wear. However the outlining diamonds show some wear which is why I am pricing it at break even. If they were in better shape, I'd be listing this significantly more but I always study each piece and take all those things into account.

The center stone is wonderful - completely eye clean, not a speck on it. There is an indented natural inclusion on the underside of the girdle edge, seen only when studying through the stone under magnification. But the top side is a perfect, glossy disco ball.

The outlining diamonds have wear. Six out of the 8 have nibbles and chips around the girdles leaving a rough edge, mostly always the outside edge. One diamond has only 3 facets and is a thin cut so at some angles, you can almost see right through it, it is quite clear - so you might notice in some pics it looks like a stone is missing. They are all there, it's just the one has such few facets. Four diamonds have eye visible frosty inclusions leaving some looking quite frosty overall. There are three worn outside prongs but none of the stones move so this is something to keep an eye on over time. The center stone appears to have been re-tipped / fortified and you can see some yellow gold glow at the base of those strong prongs.

So this is not the ring for those who like their antique pieces to appear like new, it is sold as is and priced accordingly.

There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because the gold reflects its surroundings. Please also note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights any surface wear, scratches, abrasions, buildup or inclusions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : ) There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings including the green trees out the window.
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
