ABOUT:
A unique and stunning French antique hinged bangle bracelet with so many fun design elements!
The diamonds are a mix of old mine cuts in halo settings with rose cuts in between.
The vertical edges of the gold work at the base of the halos and on the bars in between each one are ornately engraved on both sides.
And my favorite - the old mine cuts are a fabulous mix - three being white, one being yellow and another champagne / light brown! I love old cuts with hues. Such special hand cut stones cut in much more limited supply, I get excited when I find them in colors outside of white. : )
She's a quirky babe!
Beautiful sparkle and a nice geometry to a wrist stack. I could see this with modern gold bangles or chains because it really is a timeless design element and adds a wonderful sparkle. This is one you can wear with jeans and a tee dressed down, or fancy enough to dress up as well!
Found in France with their hallmarks on the tongue insert of the clasp for 18k gold. Some additional stamps I couldn't quite make out.
MEASUREMENTS:
It weighs 13.1 grams.
It is about 7 inches around the inside with a tape measure wrapped within it the best I can do (this is an estimate as I can't get the tape exactly nested. Inside dimensions are 62mm by 56mm if I measure the distance across the opening in each direction, if you want to compare that to some of your other bangles. I have a 5 1/2 inch wrist and it is too large for me. : ( It slides off my hand without opening and spins around my wrist so it would be better on a larger wrist or stacked with other pieces. And with the safety chain, it opens to slide over a larger wrist.
The diamonds each measure 3.4 to 3.7mm and measure .16 to .25 carat each. Total carat weight for the largest stones is right around 1 carat, although this is an estimate, I would not remove them for exact measurements. The rose cuts are small, 1mm and less but those would add up on top of the 1 carat total of the larger as well.
Each cluster measures 12x11mm and each cluster is about 9.5mm deep. The north south footprint of the bracelet is about 13mm from cluster to cluster. Some of my buyers use these measurements to draw it out and "try it on" to see scale.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
It is missing one of the teensiest tiniest rose cuts. I can actually not see it with my eyes which are in their forties. I only see that it's missing under magnification and of course as any good jeweler, I always have a pile of replacement stones lying around but this one is so teeny tiny that even my smallest slivers of chips of rose cuts are too large, so I am selling it as is since it is so miniscule. That same section that is missing one little rose cut has tiny single cuts inserted upside down to mimic the appearance of rose cuts, this is something modern jewelers sometimes do when it's hard to find the right sized salvaged antique rose cuts. Again this isn't really noticeable while wearing as the stones are smaller than 1 millimeter.
A few shallow impressions on the smooth back of the bangle, notable due to the mirrored finish there in an area of about 1/4 of the bracelet, more on one edge, I had a hard time capturing it in photos because it isn't drastic, but it is more an area of ripples and not sharp pin dings.
The hinge wobbles slightly but the clasp snaps closed super securely with added safety latch. The tongue insert actually takes a bit of tactile strength to open and close it so you need to be mindful when applying pressure to open it not to let it slip and harm the other hinge, this is just advice to keep in mind but better a tight clasp than a loose one.
I noticed when measuring some of the old mine cuts move up and down in the bezel but they don't rattle and they are held in there securely. We often see this with antique bezel settings.
As mentioned varying hues to the diamonds. Some are eye clean, others with a faint frosty inclusion here or there, and then one of the end stones has an eye visible slightly larger inclusion but it is one of the smaller stones and it is not glaring. These things are all typical for diamonds from this period.
Beautiful coloring, shine and patina. Some surface wear and a few scuffs scratches made more noticeable by the mirrored finish, but functions well. So sparkly and pretty. Please note that due to age, this piece is not in mint condition.
My items do very well without paperwork and I do not remove stones from antique settings for certification but always provide as much detail as possible with measurements, condition notes and many extra photos (see website) to capture it true to life in various lighting conditions, which can be translated to grading scales if desired.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

Many of my listings include group shots – I find the comparisons between pieces help show scale, diamond hues, etc. All items in group shots are inventory, but refer to the website to see what items have sold out and to watch for new listings from the grouping to appear on the home page.
