I am selling an assortment of vintage to antique jewelry which I have hunted for and gathered from around the world. Some examples seen in the last photo - thanks for stopping by!
ABOUT:
Timeless antique old mine cut diamond stud earrings in 18k gold. The buttercup type settings each hold a little over a half a carat old mine cut diamond (over 1 carat total for the pair). The ear posts and base of the earrings are in 18k yellow gold, with the prongs in a white precious metal (I don't test prongs for fear of damaging) as was customary for the period to set diamonds in a white metal.
The setting serves as an illusion setting with the white precious metal prongs surround adding size to the diamonds. At the base of the prongs is a lovely ruffly design which also gives the earrings a larger footprint on the earlobe.
The push backs are the Alpa brand with the spring loaded push buttons to secure them at the end of the earring post. These little “buttons” on each side are what you squeeze to run the push back down the ear post. These can be pushed in all the way to the back of the earring but might slide some as they really only click in to the latch in at the end. So they are in No danger of falling off because with the push buttons, they latch onto that little catch at the end of the ear post, meaning the push backs cannot be removed unless you manually press those little buttons on each side. About as secure as you can get for earrings making these great for regular wear.
Found in France. The push backs are stamped ALPA 18k Mecan 750 for 18k gold.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos with the zoom pictures I am required to present.
MEASUREMENTS:
The diamonds are each about 5.2mm, not super chunky cuts in this case but they are each a little over half a carat with a total diamond weight of a little over 1 carat for the pair. This is an estimate as I do not remove stones from antique settings for exact measurements and I could not get an exact depth on the stones as they are set. The faces of the earrings with the prongs and outline are 7.5mm.
The pair weighs 3.4 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
The posts are a larger gauge compared to some but very wearable and nice quality, quite sturdy. The push backs are later than the earrings which are older, they were always this style but perhaps the original ones weakened with age so these are nice and secure now.
Typical antique diamonds with natural inclusions. One has a frosty pocket inclusion and the other has a smaller smattering of tiny carbon specks around the culet. These inclusions are slightly eye visible (but not to my eyes which are in their forties. : ) Also typical in that they have a slight warmth under magnification but they face up white and don't appear dingy or yellow.
A bit of wear to the prongs as expected for age but each stone is well surrounded so this is just something to keep an eye on over time.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
