ABOUT:
Wonderful French antique cluster pendant featuring 10 old cut diamonds. At center is a chunky old mine cut diamond measuring about 1/3 carat. It is surrounded by a halo of rose cut diamonds for all over sparkle. I love how the chunky old mine is suspended in the prongs above the ring face so you can see its chunky cut.
Timeless and classic daisy cluster setting. Would be a beautiful something old for a bride.
HALLMARKS:
French hallmark for 18k gold on the loop. The diamond prongs are topped in white gold or platinum, as was customary for the time to set the stones in a white precious metal (I don't scratch test tops as I don't wish to leave a mark or damage prongs or stones but this is their typical fabrication).
Antique boxes, chains, props in photos is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Exact carat weight is unknown as I would not remove the stones but the largest center stone measures 4.3mm and is about .33 carat. The eight rose cuts in the halo are each 2.5mm give or take with a tiny one at the top below the loop. Like most rose cuts they have a lower comparative carat weight than a modern diamond but the surface area gives it the appearance of a larger carat stone. This pendant faces up at about .8 carat total weight using the millimeter measurements, but again that is not actual carat weight as the exact depths and weights of each rose cut is unknown.
It measures 16.5mm top to bottom including the attached loop (but not including the dangling jump ring) by 11mm east west and stands 7mm deep. It weighs 2.15 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
As with all my pieces this is in estate condition. The center old mine cut has a very nice clarity overall but with four tiny indented natural inclusions on four different spots of the facets. GIA defines this as a dent that occurs under the surface of a diamond as a result of the diamond cutter's decision not to polish it off, because doing so could end up harming the diamond so the cutters would work around it - this is not considered a defect or blemish but under strong magnification it looks like a frosty speck or dust particle. Again these are not eye visible because they are so minuscule and the diamond is stable. It is held very securely in sturdy prongs. For the rose cuts - A few frosty spots of natural inclusions and two with a rough edge but none appear frosty all the way through and they have a nice sparkle. A bit of wear here and there to the outside prongs as expected for age in the halo but none of the stones move.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
