ABOUT:

Another one from my personal collection.  I love antique rings with diamond texture like this and the old cut diamonds span the top of the finger so well!

I've been hunting for antique double row rings for quite awhile now and love this one with the 18 chunky old mine cut diamonds totaling 1.25 carat cropping out of the ring face. In the ever popular gold with silver collets setting, it has an awesome antique look. This one stacks so beautifully for a wonderful texture and moody antique sparkle as the ring face has that crustily encrusted look with the lofty crowns of the old cuts.

I suspect this one was re-shanked at some point. The wide band has patina but the way the diamond settings are applied to the top of the band, along with the sturdiness of the band considering the period and age. It's nice and sturdy now so it's ready for wear. Nice and flat north and south edge so again excellent to layer.

Found in the UK, the shank tests at 10k gold (tested, no hallmarks remain) with the diamonds each enthroned in silver collet settings, as was typical for the period to set diamonds in a white metal. From the early 1800s Georgian period. Many of the diamonds have that amazing hand chiseled appearance with the single row of long triangular facets and more squared shapes giving them Peruzzi tendencies. I just love antique diamonds like these.

I've been wearing it in heavy rotation with a buttery gold band and even layered with a solitaire. My favorite is to see it on the hand slightly angled to see those lofty crowns to the old hand cut stones creating that cobblestone texture. Nice carat weight but still so relevant, versatile and wearable.

Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

It is a size 6. It weighs 3.85 grams.
The diamonds are 2.2 to 3mm each just measuring the exposed portions of the stones, which widen out further an unknown amount in the silver collet settings which surround each stone up and over the girdles. I do not remove stones from antique settings for an exact measurement as it would damage the piece but estimates to at least 1 1/4 carat total weight in diamonds and up from there being that the stones are chunkier cuts than modern brilliants.

The ring face is 19mm east west on the finger from diamond to diamond and it stands 3.4mm tall off the finger to the high crowns of the diamonds. Yet it is still low profile and very comfortable to wear. The double row of stones is 7.4mm north south on the finger.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Three stones have an area with a shallow, frosty flake of loss to the surface leaving a frosty unpolished area that I can't really even pick out with my eyes which are in their forties. They all still fill the collet settings and appear complete to the eye. As mentioned, I suspect the shank is later the way the diamond settings are applied to it but the ring face is Georgian period.

The diamonds are typical for the period in that they read warm to gray. Considering age and the foil back setting though they are not super dingy, rusty or muddy looking and with their high crowns they still have an excellent antique sparkle. I love finding antique stones like these, having been cut during a time when the rough diamonds were in a much more limited supply and came from mines that produced warmer stones.
Also Typical antique diamonds in that they have some faint natural inclusions. For the most part what is seen is under magnification so the piece is for the most part eye clean. No glaring ink spots or anything that jumps out with normal wear, rather some frosty spots and specks here and there. And then the warmth to gray mix of the stones being the only thing noticeable.

As always, closed back settings like these should avoid getting wet.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
