ABOUT:
So pretty... We love our chunky old cuts but this setting just adds to the loveliness with the three diamonds set at an angle. The bypass band is encrusted with rose cuts for additional glitter, with two little bezel set old cuts completing the swirl.
Nice carat weight at 1 1/4 carats total, with tons of sparkle shooting from the entire face of the ring (the prongs settings and the bypass band)! This French antique piece from the Belle Epoque period is crafted in 18k gold and topped in platinum, as was customary for the period to set diamonds in a white metal. I found it in France and it has their faint hallmark for 18k gold.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Size 6 3/4, just slightly snug. It stands 5.6mm tall off the finger. It weighs 4 grams.
I do not remove my stones from their antique settings for exact measurements but it totals around 1 1/4 carat total diamond weight (estimated). Each of the center diamonds measures about 4.5mm cushion cut, almost 0.35 carat each (depths and shapes vary slightly). The two bezel set diamonds are 1.7mm and the 16 rose cuts are very small, about 1mm.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
All antique hand cut diamonds of course have a more limited supply since they are no longer made in this way. There are only so many in existence compared to the millions of carats of modern machine cut diamonds made every year. These have withstood the test of time. Two of the larger diamonds are eye clean, one has a carbon spot that is not glaring but eye visible if you are seeking it out. The three center stone have a lovely warmth to them. It is actually widely accepted by collectors that the warm color of an old cut diamond is part of its appeal. Most of the rough diamonds at that time actually came from mines that produced warmer-colored diamonds so this is typical for old cuts. Typical rose cuts as well, very small with frosty spots, irregular edges, they tend to always look this way and just add a glint of sparkle and texture.
Recommend gentler wear for this one as there are six total worn prongs for the three stones combined. They are worn nearly all the way back but each stone has enough length to the other prongs to hold each stone without moving. This is something to keep an eye on over time. Of course reinforcement is always possible if desired by your local jeweler, but we usually ask them to do the minimum possible vs. making it like new. Same with the rose cuts, I always recommend gentler wear on pieces of this age when they have so many small stones set into the shank.
My items do very well without paperwork so I have not sent the stone for certification but always provide as much detail as possible with measurements, condition notes and many extra photos (see website) to capture it true to life in various lighting conditions, which can be translated to grading scales if desired.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
