ABOUT:
This one is quite the bauble! Nice size and attention grabbing sparkle to this French antique rose cut diamond cluster ring. These are difficult to find in open back settings - so often rose cuts are in foiled settings. And the center stone is quite clear!

The piece is in 18k gold with the diamonds set in platinum tops as was customary for the period to set the stones in a white metal. The rose cuts vary in form, the center being quite clear, almost transparent as glass and somewhat triangular in shape. With the eight outlining diamonds, these are all clustered together with additional accents at the ring shoulders propping them up in the crown like setting. Classic French design - the daisy cluster with raised shoulders.

Super eye catching and very sparkly - a fun piece to wear! Varying depths to the diamonds - I just love the untamed, some would say moody appearance of old rose cut diamonds. With less facets they have that special antique sparkle. This one is also interesting in that some of the diamonds appear almost see through and then with movement, the surface facets catch the light to provide that flash of winks and glitter.

My last similar ring flew off the shelf so I am excited to offer this one with slightly larger stones as I am not often able to source them. Found in France with their goldsmith stamps at the back. I can't find a gold purity mark but that is not uncommon for French pieces. Sold to me as 18k which is the standard there and tested to confirm. The gold has a beautiful rosy hue.

Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.

MEASUREMENTS:
Size 7 3/4

The ring face is 13.4mm north south and 6.5mm tall off the finger.
Exact carat weight is unknown as I would never remove the stones from the antique setting. They are not all perfectly round and the depth of each is varied as some are sliced quite thin. But using estimations for rose cuts, it calculates to around 1.3 carat total weight. Again this is an estimate as they are thin disks.
The center diamond is 6mm and sliced thin. The other eight outlining diamonds are 3mm each give or take and 2.5mm at each shoulder.
Like most rose cuts these have a lower comparative carat weight than a modern stone, but the surface area gives it the appearance of a larger carat stone. If these were brilliant cuts with pavilions below the stones, it would be about 1.85 carat total weight in diamonds so that gives you an idea of how it "faces up" size wise.
The ring weight is 4.3 grams.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Many more images can be found on my website.

These rose cut clusters with open backs are difficult to find which is why I jumped on it when I saw it. With the open back and for the most part strong platinum prongs, it is ready for regular wear. However the outlining diamonds show some wear. If they were in better shape, I'd be listing this for more but I always study each piece and take all those things into account so please seek these notes out in the photos which zoom the stones much more than what would be seen to the eye while wearing.

The center stone is wonderful - quite clear with a beautiful warm hue and few facets making it almost see through. There are a few indented natural inclusions around the outline edges and an additional patch on the underside of the girdle edge, seen only when studying through the stone under magnification. But the top side is glossy. These are natural characteristics of the stone and likely have always appeared this way since the diamond disk was cut, so it is not damage.

The outlining diamonds do have wear. Three out of the 8 have nibbles and chips around the girdles leaving a rough edge, mostly always the outside edge. They also have some natural inclusions and frosty spots, frosted girdles and uneven and non uniform cuts. They most often look this way on rose cut pieces of this age. Some have fewer facets and are a thin cut so at some angles, you can almost see right through them, they are quite clear at the center - so you might notice in some pics it looks like a stone is missing. They are all there! : ) It's just the way the stones are cut. It is nice that none of the stones appear frosty all the way through, most of what we see is around the outline of the stones. A worn prong here or there, but none of the stones move so this is something to keep an eye on over time.

Please also note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights any surface wear, scratches, abrasions, buildup or inclusions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : ) There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings including the green trees out the window.
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
