ABOUT:

Awesome texture and geometry to this antique cluster pendant featuring an extra chunky center old mine cut popped up in prongs. It is surrounded by a halo of rose cuts to create a daisy cluster, with added rose cuts at each of the four corners. The cluster is then surrounded by a sturdy gold halo and to top it off, we have the rose cut diamond encrusted bale to hang on a chain.

The setting is in 18k yellow gold topped in white gold or platinum as was customary for the period to set diamonds in a white precious metal (I do not scratch test prongs for fear of damage). As such, it can be worn with either a yellow or white gold chain.

Would be a beautiful something old and something blue for a bride.

Found in Paris, no hallmarks remain but sold to me from a reputable partner as 18k gold and tested.

Antique boxes, chains, props in photos is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

Exact carat weight is unknown as I would not remove the stones and the depths vary but the rose cuts have a nice dome. The center stone is a 5mm cushion cut with an extra chunky cut measuring about .6 carat alone. The eight domed rose cuts in the halo are about 2.7mm each. The smaller ones in the corners and on the bale are about 1.5mm each. Loosely estimated total carat weight of about 1.3 carats.

It measures 27mm top to bottom including the diamond bale by 17mm east west in diameter for the circle. It stands 7mm deep off the decollette with the sturdy halo and raised diamonds. It weighs a sturdy 5.4 grams.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

The gold halo is perfectly round and sturdy but at one spot at about 2 o'clock the white metal top layer has worn away leaving the underlying yellow gold in that spot. Not sure what occurred - it may have been burn tested (not by me!) that the white topped precious metal was lost there. There is a faint seam there seen under magnification on the side of the halo that was likely done in the fabrication of the piece. Not all that uncommon to find such quirks in antique pieces over 100 years old. It is possible a jeweler could re-plate the halo with rhodium or perhaps smooth down the entire halo to the yellow gold underneath as the halo is quite thick. Something to discuss with your local jeweler who would be doing the work but the piece has a warm glow anyway from the rest of it, including the majority of the halo crafted in yellow gold so I decided to sell it as is as I didn't find it too glaring or distracting. But please seek that out in photos as it is sold as is and seems to vary depending on the lighting and how the halo is reflecting the light.

One prong in the corner of the old mine cut has pulled away but the rest are sturdy so the stone does not move. Some wear to the rose cut prongs as well to keep an eye on, this is expected for age. The old mine cut is eye clean with a lovely slight warmth typical for diamonds from the period which came from mines that produced predominantly warmer rough cut stones. It has some nibbles to the girdle which is unpolished as required for an antique diamond. Typical old rose cut diamonds with some faint natural inclusions, nicks, frosty and irregular edges, likely have always been that way as they were rough cut by hand.

Please note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights any surface wear, scratches, abrasions, buildup or inclusions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - PDue to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
