ABOUT:
Here's a beauty antique five stone diamond band with warm to light champagne hues in an organic mix. I love oldies like this with the warmth and character! They vary slightly in hue - all so lovely! I try to acquire as many diamond bands as I can because they are so versatile and wearable that they are always very popular.
It is actually widely accepted by collectors that the warm color of an old cut diamond is part of its appeal. Most of the rough diamonds at that time actually came from mines that produced warmer-colored diamonds so this fun to find in old cuts and often sought after by collectors (like myself! : )
Crafted in Antique 18k gold. It has later hallmarks for London, date 1993 when it was restamped. It appears to have been part of a set or permanent stack that was soldered at one time and later divided leaving a beveled edge to the inside of the shank. Not at all uncomfortable or noticeable while wearing but just part of its story, and was likely when it was restamped. I think some prongs have had some reinforcing during its life as well.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
A snug Size 6 3/4. It weighs 4.4 grams.
The center diamond is 4.55mm, over .4 carat alone. The flanking two stones are 4.2mm each and the diamonds on each end are about 3.7mm.
Exact carat weight is unknown as I would not remove the stones from the antique setting but estimated total weight of around 1.3 carat.
Stands 5.5mm off the finger and 20mm east west for all five diamonds.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
As mentioned, the stones display a gorgeous warmth with varying hues. The hues can vary based on lighting conditions but always noticeable I would say. I showed it in photos next to a whiter five stone for contrast.
Some of the corner prongs show some wear but the north south and end prongs appear to have been reinforced as they are quite wide so the stones are well held.
The center stone has an eye visible crystal and carbon formation on about one quarter of the stone. For the others, two are eye clean with only some specks seen under strong magnification. One has an indented natural inclusion leaving a frosty unpolished fleck off one top edge and the other has a tiny smattering of carbon, very slightly eye visible as they are so small. The center stone seems to face up a bit whiter despite having the larger inclusion.
It was price with these above things in mind.
Shank is sturdy.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
