ABOUT:
Listing is for one clip / pendant / brooch but I have two available - a matching pair.
These antique clips are entirely encrusted with chunky old cut diamonds. In the center are 11 old mine cut diamonds in open backed settings, raised slightly with lofty crowns cropping out of their silver collets. These are surrounded by scalloped lobes that are set entirely with 38 rose cut diamonds for a complete all over sparkle. One clip holds approximately 4.5 carats of antique diamonds.
Wonderful texture to the clips. Purchased as a pair in Paris, We often see these hung on chains, clipped to a lapel or collar, worn as a brooch or as shoe clips. Quite special - listing is for one but two are available if a pair is desired.
These antique parts and findings are becoming more and more popular as people build their neckmess with connectors and clips. Nice versatile piece to wear in several ways.
Found in France, it has their hallmark for 9k gold on the back inside and the entirety of the clips to protect the skin from tarnish while the diamonds are set in silver collets as was customary to set diamonds in a white metal.
Striking sparkle to this antique larger sized and completely glitter encrusted clip. Several of the old mine cuts have Peruzzi like tendencies with square shapes and long triangular table facets. Some of the rose cuts have pink hues from age to the foil back. They are quite lovely with chunky cuts.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Some of my buyers "draw out" an example to get an idea of scale in person.
Antique Boxes, props, chains, mice : ) not included. I just laid it over my staging chain to show examples of how to wear.
MEASUREMENTS:
Weight is a sturdy 7.4 or 7.7 grams per each. Each measures 28mm by 20mm.
The largest center diamond is 5.7mm and about 3/4 carat alone. The other old mine cuts raised in the center are 3.2 to 3.5mm each. The rose cuts in the outside scalloped halo measure 2 to 2.5mm give or take.
This is just measuring the exposed parts of the stones, which widen out an unknown amount in the collets which curve around the outside edges of all the stones. So exact carat weight is impossible to know without removing then which I would not do.
We estimate the 11 old mine cuts to be about 2.35 carats total. The rose cuts add at least an additional 2.2 carats for a total carat weight of over 4.5 carats conservatively with the depths and edges of the stone hidden.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Patina to the silver and a little bit of build up. With the closed back settings to the rose cuts, we aren't able to get these wet so I just gave it a wipe. A little more detailed polishing or cleaning could be done carefully with a damp cloth. I was able to clean the open backs of the old mine cuts. Varying hues to the rose cut diamonds, some a gorgeous pink color, others champagne, and others a warm to darker gray. Typical antique diamonds with frosty flakes of loss, natural inclusions, rough edges. Some of this may have always been this way, having been hand cut in the mines when stones were in a much more limited supply. They tend to always look this way on pieces of this age. But you should be able to see this in the zoom photos which makes the stones look much worse than with normal wear. Some of the diamonds are eye clean but most of what we see is typical for the period for these hand cut stones cut in much more limited supply long before the Four C's was invented. Still a sturdy piece - Ready to wear and be used for another 100 years! The clips are spring loaded and with the weight and sturdiness of the piece and the clips, they should be able to hold themselves well on a chain.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
I would be delighted if you'd follow me in my shop. Thanks for stopping by!
