Antique .5 Carat Eye Clean Old Mine Cut DIAMOND Five Stone 14k Gold Bezel Set Platinum Ring Band Solitaire Engagement Stacker
Antique .5 Carat Eye Clean Old Mine Cut DIAMOND Five Stone 14k Gold Bezel Set Platinum Ring Band Solitaire Engagement Stacker
ABOUT:
Timeless antique design that is easy to wear. This one has a center chunky, eye clean old mine cut diamond raised in a bezel with additional little old mine cuts on each side. Five stones in all totaling a little over half a carat total weight. This one can read as an engagement or diamond solitaire ring with accents, as well as being an excellent stacker. The bezel setting makes it a lower profile so it doesn't catch on things compared to taller solitaires. A classic look that layers well with bands.
Found in Sweden. No hallmarks remain but sold to me as 14k and tested to confirm. The diamond settings are topped in platinum as was customary for the period to set diamonds in a white metal.
Antique box is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size: 5 1/4
Weight: 1.6g
The center stone is about 4.5 by 4.2mm and about .4 carat. The smaller four are about 1.7mm each for a total carat weight of a little over half a carat. This is an estimation as I would never remove them from the setting for exact.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
The back of the shank is worn quite thin - something to keep in mind if planning to wear it tightly on a finger or if planning to have it sized, you'd want to discuss with your jeweler prior.
We know that GIA doesn't assign cut grades to antique stones that were hand cut long before the Four C's was invented for machine cut diamonds. This is an example of a unique one, because the diamond is cut slightly asymmetrical and the culet is off center. An interesting hand cut stone, certainly love seeing the eccentricities that antique diamonds, each one of a kind, can give us. I don't prefer to grade my antique diamonds with the Four C's grading scale which came about way later for machine cut diamonds with mathematically perfected facets. The scale does not do antique stones justice as they were expertly hand cut in a much more limited supply compared to the millions of carats of machine cut diamonds made each year now. But the diamonds are eye clean. I was told K in color and VS in clarity. I love the design and style of this one.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
