ABOUT:
One of my favorite bracelets in awhile! The array of true blue colors of the fifteen natural sapphires totaling at least seven carats!? Swoon! Add in the sparkle of the rose cut spacers / gem set prongs at the top and bottom of each stone and you have the most wonderful antique look.
It just makes such a lovely line across the wrist. Found in France, it is hallmarked with their stamps on the tongue insert for 18k gold and silver. The majority being in that warm and rich antique 18k gold, with just the diamond set prongs being topped in silver.
This one does have wear to the setting for its age of over 125+ years so I am selling it as is based on what I paid to acquire it in Paris.
The sapphires taper in size becoming larger towards the top / center of the bracelet. Beautiful colors making this one wearable even in a silver, platinum, white gold or yellow gold wrist stack where the stones can add the attention grabbing effect.
Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
MEASUREMENTS:
This one is on the smaller side of many I find. It's about 6 1/4 inches with a tape measure wrapped around the inside. I have a 5.5 inch wrist and it's too large for me to where the stones can spin to the underside, (otherwise I'd be keeping it as I've not had one like it: ).
The inside measurements measuring the cross sections (to compare with your bracelets at home) are 55mm by 48mm.
Exact carat weight of the sapphires is unknown as they are set but it's at least 7 carats on the conservative end, measuring each stone and plugging it in by mm. The end stones are abut .3 carat each, tapering up to .7 carats each at the center.
The bracelet measuring 8.5mm north south at the widest area and stands 5.5mm tall off the wrist.
It weighs 21.6 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
The setting is worn, more notes below.
The push button clasp works perfectly and snaps very securely into place. The hinge wobbles when open but it closes securely. The gold is in better than most condition with just one shallow impression that looks like a ripple and one area with some linear nicks. Patina at the shoulders due to the silver top which could be polished if desired.
The stones are in good condition with a lovely sheen and polish and amazing color, no dull or matte finish stones from tons of abrasions. Just a nick or nibble here or there. One stone has a chip to the girdle edge which makes it slightly out of round on that edge with its cushioned shape. One other stone has some chips to the corner that has it pulled away from that prong but it appears pretty complete in shape since the other stones have silver overlapping that same section.
Some natural inclusions to the sapphires. Really wonderful and interesting stones with the inclusions that can catch the light and actually add to their effect. While many in the gem world consider inclusions an "imperfection", when it comes to sapphires, they can often actually enhance the color and beauty of the stones.
This one needs gentle wear and is being sold as is. I wouldn't have it rattle around in a stack without enforcing which could add up so I am selling it in original condition as preferred by many of my customers. Reinforcing the whole thing would overwork the piece and likely take away from its design so this would probably be one to wear more gently and deal with issues as they come with your local jeweler, of course that is up to the buyers preference.
One rose cut has adhesive residue under magnification and I would imagine there are others that are weak in the setting as they are such small irregular chips.
Each silver prong has some wear and these are what hold the sapphires in at each of the four corners. Some of the stones can rock below the silver prongs but do not come free. All of the silver shows wear and some are held in in 3 of the four spots with one worn completely back.
Typical antique hand cut diamonds with some slightly warm hues, frosty spots, they were always this way, little rough cuts to add a glint of sparkle.
Again sold as is, I would have listed it for at least a thousand more if the settings were in better condition but it remains a real collector's piece that just needs to be babied a bit.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
