ABOUT:
This classic Art Deco period engagement ring has such a pretty little basket setting holding up the one carat (a little over) old European cut diamond in a sturdy eight prong setting. In each shoulder are little old mine cut diamonds for a nice crusty sparkle.
I got this one in England. It is crafted in 18k white gold and is well priced for carat weight because the antique diamond has some quirks typical with what we find in these old stones that were produced in such a limited supply compared to the millions of carats of diamonds produced in the modern day.
Ready for regular wear with sturdy prongs all around the center stone, an excellent little sparkler with that added texture at the shoulders of the old cuts cropping out.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Size 5 1/4. It stands 6.1mm tall off the finger. It weighs 1.7 grams.
I do not remove my stones from their antique settings for exact measurements but the diamond measures about 6.7-6.8mm depending on where you measure (as old cuts are seldom perfectly round) and an estimated weight of a little over one carat alone. The six side diamonds in addition to that.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
All antique hand cut diamonds of course have a more limited supply since they are no longer made in this way. There are only so many in existence compared to the millions of carats of modern machine cut diamonds made every year. These have withstood the test of time. This one has some quirks typical for the period with a slight warmth. It has two linear crystal pocket inclusions with some carbon making one warm and the other dark gray so it would be graded an I. One carries up to the surface leaving a small crease / indented natural inclusion but the stone is completely stable. These two natural characteristics of the stone are eye visible. It has a pretty strong blue fluorescence which serves as a color corrector to help it face up whiter, especially in the sunshine, but without becoming milky. Side diamonds are also smaller rough old cuts with some variances and frostiness, natural inclusions, etc. Still a bright, sparkly and lively stone in good condition, priced accordingly due to the inclusions. Some rub marks to the vertical edges. I love it in a mixed metal stack.
Ready for daily wear which is hard to find in antique pieces.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
