ABOUT:
So ornate with large finger coverage, vibrant natural green emerald and the sparkle of old mine and rose cut diamonds.
This French Belle Epoque ring is the statement piece. At center is a pear cut emerald which is flanked by two old mine cut diamonds. At the shoulders, the swirl details are set with rose cut diamonds for texture and sparkle. Total carat weight is around 1.5 carat in antique diamonds providing an excellent accent to the glowing green emerald. The ring spans over an inch north south on the finger with beautiful movement, color and glitter.
Found in France with their hallmark for 18k gold and a goldsmith stamp.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and the pictures can make it difficult to see scale. Antique box is not included.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Size 7, a little over, but doesn't reach 7 1/4.
I do not remove my stones from their settings for exact measurements and exact depths are unknown. Each of the two larger old mine cuts are about 4.5mm give or take. The 20 rose cuts are small, 1 to 2mm each. Total carat in diamonds alone weight estimates to around 1.5 carats.
The emerald is about 9.3 by 6mm pear cut.
The piece weighs 5.8 grams. The ring face is 26mm north south where the three stones align. It stands 5mm off the finger.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Some wear to the prongs to keep an eye on over time, as expected for age. All the stones have enough length to surround the three largest stones on all sides, but you can see some wear to them, although none of the stones move.
The emerald has some deeper nibbles and abrasions to the facets but it looks like it has been re-polished as there is still a nice sheen so there is a nice glow and color to the stone. The abrasions are eye visible however, when you study the surface of the stone in a reflection of light to see the interruption of the facets. The emerald has natural frosty inclusions but a gorgeous true green color.
One old mine cut diamond is eye clean, the other has a small frosty inclusion (still not visible to my eyes which are in their forties but it can catch the light and may be visible to others). Some tiny nibbles but all stones appear complete.
The smaller stones are typical old rose cut diamonds, cut by hand so they have the beautifully irregular and sometimes imperfect antique look to them. Some natural icy looking inclusions. Some nicks or a tiny frosty / unpolished area here and there to the old cut stones, some from age and wear or possibly just always cut that way. But to the eye they add a nice sparkle and antique look. Much of the warmth is actually just build up behind the rose cuts which have an open back but a very small opening so I was not able to get the back clear with the very light cleaning I gave it.
Please note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights any surface wear, scratches, abrasions, buildup or inclusions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : )
Please also note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
