ABOUT:
Love love love antique aquamarines! When my dear and wonderful Grams and Gramps had passed, I began searching for antique aquamarines. It was the month of their anniversary and both of their birthstones, and the stone in my Grams' engagement ring. After about a year of hunting for the right piece at the right price for me, I ended up finding a French foil backed aquamarine ring that I absolutely love and wear to think of them. But my fondness for these stones really grew during that period of hunting and I discovered they aren't super easy to find.
Also in my searching I found that I prefer them in the closed back foiled settings even more than the open back settings - it just gives them a different / wonderful antique sparkle to their amazing coloring. These have an almost seafoam green hue to the pale blue. So pretty!
This pair of stud earrings is accented by a halo of rose cut diamonds. These were originally a pair of buttons, French in origin from the late Georgian to early Victorian period. They are crafted in 18k rose gold with the halo in silver to hold the diamonds, as was customary to set diamonds in a white metal. They have been converted to earrings with yellow gold ear posts and push backs added in 14k gold (although no difference in gold hue is detectable at all while wearing).
The bonus of them being conversions is they are in amazing condition. Few to no nicks, nibbles or abrasions and the foil is super bright and reflective with no muddy or rusty spots. This is very difficult to find pieces in this condition from this period with this fabrication so the fact that they were buttons and much less regularly worn compared to earrings or a ring actually make the conversion quite wonderful : )
Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos, especially with the zoomed images that I am required to present for detail. Some of my buyers draw them out to see the scale in person.
Found in France, they were hallmarked on the button backs but the later push backs are stamped 14k.
MEASUREMENTS:
11x9mm ovals. The aquas are 7.5x5mm.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Patina to the silver, typically sought after since it is age appropriate. Very little surface wear so in better than most condition with just a smattering of very small and faint cloudy spots from age to the foil back. Typical closed back antique rose cuts, they are small so nothing eye visible and again better than most in color for the period with a lovely glint of sparkle. Not recommended for 24/7 wear as they shouldn't get wet with the closed backs.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
