I am selling an assortment of vintage to antique jewelry and rings which I have hunted for and gathered from around the world, including several stackable bands.
ABOUT:
All original antique alert! And of course natural earth mined antique diamond set in its original 18k solid gold mount.
A bright and sparkly classic eight prong engagement or solitaire ring. A very pretty basket setting holds the .78 carat old mine cut diamond. The sleek shoulders are tapered slightly and rise up towards the prongs on each side for comfort and a bit of height.
Edwardian era ring found in Sweden. Full Swedish hallmarks for 18k gold with their date stamp used in 1916.
I don't prefer to grade my antique diamonds with the Four C's grading scale which came about way later for machine cut diamonds with mathematically perfected facets. The scale does not do antique stones justice as they were expertly hand cut in a much more limited supply compared to the millions of carats of machine cut diamonds made each year now. Their uniqueness and quirks are expected and part of their charm, but I will pass along the grades as I received them of SI clarity and G for color, the highest in the "near colorless" scale - this one excels for an antique when it comes to bright whiteness : ). It has a strong blue fluorescence which contributes to its brightness.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos, especially with the zoomed images that I am required to present for detail.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Size 7 1/2, Weighs a little over 2 grams.
The diamond is a 5.7mm cushion cut and measures to about .78 carat. This is an estimate measuring while set as I do not take apart my antiques for exact weight.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
A bright and rainbow fiery stone, whiter and livelier than many antiques we can find but it does have a large indented natural inclusion that is the size of two of the outside edge facets. While the stone appears complete and round, it is a texture difference due to the unpolished surface in that area. GIA defines this as a dent that occurs under the surface of a diamond as a result of the diamond cutter's decision not to polish it off, because doing so could end up harming the diamond so the cutters would work around it - this is not considered a defect or blemish but you can definitely see how the corner is frosty or matte finish there and it is eye visible. There is also a carbon and crystal natural inclusion on one outside edge that is slightly eye visible but not glaring. One additional small indented natural on an outside facet edge that is not eye visible. It is priced with these things in mind.
One prong is completely worn and the others are a bit on the thinner side from wear to the gold over 120 years which is typical, but the stone is still well held and does not move. This would be something to keep an eye on over time if planning 24/7 wear but very easy to re-tip by a local jeweler with a laser welder without compromising the integrity of the piece (if desired). Shank is on the thinner side at the back but still stable and workable.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
