ABOUT:
Here's a versatile one to dress up or down. This diamond necklace has an eye clean .65 carat old mine cut diamond fixed / attached to a buttery 18k gold chain. The diamond has an awesome kozibe effect and a nice bright white color with amazing sparkle and no detectable warmth. Held up in prongs to catch the light like the timeless and classic queen that she is.
We see a lot of modern made necklaces like this but this one is an actual all original antique.
This would be beautiful in a neckmess with yellow gold chains to add a bit of sparkle, or it is lovely to wear alone for a more minimalist statement. With the pendant affixed to the chain, it remains front and center always while wearing.
I purchased this one in Paris. There are French hallmarks for 18k gold on both the clasp and the separate safety clasp which has its own chain at the back.
Antique box, props, mice : ) etc. not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
The necklace is 16 1/4 inches in length end to end, a little over.
The diamond is about 5.4mm and around .65 carat measuring it while set.
The necklace weighs 4.4 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
The diamond is eye clean with just a few speck and fleck inclusions, under magnification one is a little crescent moon pocket inclusion but that's about it. No dark or glaring carbon spots. It had some build up on the back when I originally photographed it so the close up photos towards the beginning of the slideshow are a better representation after a more thorough cleaning. It also has one indented natural inclusion on the outside edge that appears as a frosty spot right on the girdle under magnification. GIA defines this as a dent that occurs under the surface of a diamond as a result of the diamond cutter's decision not to polish it off, because doing so could end up harming the diamond so the cutters would work around it - this is not considered a defect or blemish but under strong magnification looks a bit frosty.
Because it is antique, this one is not fit for 24/7 wear. The gold chain links are over 125 years old so they have some wear and the two clasps are a bit weak. These could be changed but the likelihood of both of them failing at the same time is unlikely. The safety chain spring ring does not spring closed or hold itself shut, but I've been handling it extensively and it has not come apart from itself despite that. The other clasp is tighter with more tension but again is not very springy, but once you double check it and manually close the spring ring when necessary, it does not open on its own, and there are two of them, so it's wearable. The loops show wear as well so while it wouldn't go flying off your person, it might be in danger from cutie patootie babies grabbing and pulling it.
: ) Just a trade off of getting an actual all original antique, they almost always need a gentler hand. It's priced with this in mind.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
