ABOUT:
This old cutie was a barrel clasp on a chain originally, but when I received it, it had been converted to a pendant. It is hexagonal in shape, oblong like a barrel, with floral and enamel details on each of the six panels. Very sweet. Would make a beautiful charm or ready to wear as a dainty pendant. It has a 3D geometry to it since it consists of six panels, that alternate between a gold floral stamped detail and blue and green enamel inlay to the floral design. Textbook French traditional piece, well worth preserving.
On one end is a cruciform opening, this is where the tongue insert would have been when it was a clasp, but now it just hangs from a jump ring. Note that it would be possible for a good jeweler to make a tongue insert and use it as a clasp, but that would depend on what you have available to you, I am selling it as a pendant (that used to be a clasp : )
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Some of my buyers "draw out" an example to get an idea of scale in person.
French hallmark for 18k gold on the loop of the barrel with a partial goldsmith stamp. The jump ring is a later addition and is not hallmarked so it may be gold filled, it is well matching but newer than the piece.
Antique Boxes, props, chains, mice : ) not included. I just laid it over my staging chain to show examples of how to wear.
MEASUREMENTS:
15.3mm end to end not including the dangling jump ring by 4.8 to 6mm deep depending on if you measure the flat panel or pointed bevel. It weighs just 0.55g.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
I would be delighted if you'd follow me in my shop. Thanks for stopping by!
