Antique M W 100 + Rose Cut Diamonds Encrusted Initial Medallion 18k Gold Silver Brooch Pin for Pendant French Figural Georgian Victorian

I am selling an assortment of vintage to antique jewelry and rings which I have hunted for and gathered from around the world. Some examples seen in the last photo - thanks for stopping by!

ABOUT:

I love coming across these diamond encrusted pieces - such an amazing glitter and texture. This is one of the most ornate ones I have seen with at least 100 little rose cut diamonds.

I'm not sure what the cypher is. I can see an M, which could be flipped for a W. There are definitely some other letters going on unless the M is meant to be the star and the rest are just flourishes. I have seen other pieces where the M is intentional to the French word "aime" for love - since the two are pronounced the same in French.  Something in my brain even sees "Amitie" the French word for "friendship" given often during the period as tokens of love or friendship, until I get to the final "e" where I have to turn it sideways to envision an "e".

Regardless it is a beauty. Crafted in 18k gold and topped in silver with the corresponding French hallmarks. It is currently a brooch but could be easily conversion buy a local jeweler.

Incredible texture and all over sparkle of the varying sized diamonds, each hand selected and hand set to fit into the design.

Antique boxes, chains, props in photos is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

Carat weight is unknown but it has to be over a carat with the 100 plus stones. The majority of the diamonds are 1.8 to 2.4mm with some teeny tiny chips.

It measures 23mm in diameter. It weighs a very sturdy 6.6 grams.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

It is missing one, maybe two tiny chips. This is not visible to the eye as they are so microscopic so it's possible they just created a carving to serve as an illusion in the setting for at least one of them.

The varying cuts and shapes all reflect the light differently giving the piece a wonderful texture. Warm to gray hues from age to the closed back setting. Typical antique diamonds with plenty of frosty light inclusions under magnification. Nothing glaring, no crazy dark carbon spots. It has a lovely antique look. Plenty of original patina.

Please note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights the warmth and any surface wear, scratches, abrasions, buildup or inclusions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
