ABOUT:
Here we have an all original antique super spready rose cut diamond but this one came to me in pieces. I bought it in France, the rose cut loose but still with its original setting. I sent it off to Collins family jewelers who re-set it for me, back in its original domed back bezel and added loops at the top to turn it into a pendant.
Nice size rose cut from the spready perspective, measuring 9x8mm and facing up at around 2 carats comparatively (actual carat weight is much less, by half at least, and unknown exactly but it is thinly sliced.)
I'm not sure what this was originally that it came to me as a diamond with its own bezel setting, but it makes a beautiful pendant! We didn't re-foil it, rather chose to use the platinum domed back setting as it was, already white and reflective, and just put the stone back in it. So here you get original antique components, all joined together since their creation well over 125 years ago, but with later added pendant loop / jump ring and a reinforced bezel. With 14k yellow loops and the bezel ready for another 100 years, this one can be worn as a pendant, a bracelet charm, or in a stack with other pieces really in any color.
We see and love plenty of old cut diamonds repurposed in later settings, they are all lovely and I carry them frequently as well, but it is always fun (and quite difficult) to find the actual original antique pieces. The antique rose cut has that minimal triangular faceting to give it that geometry antique sparkle.
Please feel free to request more videos (easy to send through instagram) as I have several videos in all lighting and it gives a more true to life look, compared to the photos which seem to catch a lot of reflections that aren't prevalent in real life.
Bezel is in good shape so it is ready for regular wear!
Antique box / props not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
See above for the diamond.
The piece including the setting is 12x9mm including the attached loop, but not the dangling jump ring and including the bezel. If you add the height of the bale it is 16mm top to bottom. The setting is 5mm deep, depth of the stone is unknown.
The pendant weighs 1.1 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Very nice sparkle and a bright color. We do see a bit of a gray reflection in some lights, typical for closed backed settings but it is a lively piece. Some cloudy spots when you view it face on. looking through the stone, but nice to find a closed back setting of this age that is not muddy or rusty.
The outside edges of the stone had some flakes of loss due to being thinly sliced and free from the setting but most all of that is hidden under the bezel now. There is just one circular flake that appears like a frosty spot that is visible. The stone has a good clarity considering it was produced during a time when diamonds were in much more limited supply, especially compared to the millions of carats of new diamonds cut each year. It has one notable inclusion on the right side, with some wisps, a carbon spot and a fainter carbon smudge all in one spot. The carbon spot is more of a speck while the more faint gray smudge is more prevalent, it appears as a gray spot right right up against the bezel at 3 o'clock. The stone is stable as is the setting but we avoid getting this wet.
The setting is sturdy. There are some notches to the back of the setting from whatever it was in its prior life. Ready for regular wear.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
