ABOUT:
Here we have an all original antique chubby pear shaped rose cut diamond that came off a broken brooch. I bought it in France, the center stone was shattered, other stones were missing but there were these two glorious rose cuts, one on each end, that I saw and immediately wanted to repurpose.
The nice thing about it being a conversion is that, despite the breaks to the brooch, it was gently worn in the sense that the stones never got wet so there is no rust or deterioration, the foil and setting is just as bright and reflective as it was when it was made in the Art Deco period.
Anyway, I sent it off to Collins family jewelers who removed them and added loops at the top to turn them into pendants. And I just loved them so much that I decided to keep one - tee hee. So whoever gets this one will be twinning with me.
The piece was hallmarked on it for 18k gold and platinum, no stamps remain on the components now.
Nice size rose cut from the spready perspective, measuring 7.8x6.8mm and facing up at at least around 1.3 carat comparatively. This one has a nice dome to it too compared to many of the flatter, more thinly sliced rose cut discs which are also lovely but this one has some girth.
I call it a chubby pear because most pear cut diamonds have a more elongated shape where as this one is quite bulbous. : ). Always fun to find old cuts in shapes outside of round!
So here you get the original antique component, but with later added pendant loop / jump ring. With 14k yellow loops and a sturdy setting, this one can be worn as a pendant, a bracelet charm, or in a stack with other pieces really in any color.
We see and love plenty of old cut diamonds repurposed in later settings, they are all lovely and I carry them frequently as well, but it is always fun (and quite difficult) to find the actual original antique pieces.
Please feel free to request more videos (easy to send through instagram) as I have several videos in all lighting and it gives a more true to life look, compared to the photos which seem to catch a lot of reflections that aren't prevalent in real life.
Bezel is in good shape so it is ready for regular wear!
Antique box / props not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
See above for the diamond.
The piece including the setting is 11x7.5mm including the attached loop, but not the dangling jump ring and including the bezel. If you add the height of the bale it is 15.5mm top to bottom. The setting is 4.8mm deep, depth of the stone is unknown and carat weight is unknown but it's chubby and chunky compared to many from the period.
The pendant weighs 1.2 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Very nice sparkle and a bright color. The foil is excellent for age and it is a lively piece. The diamond is eye clean and of excellent clarity. Some cloudy spots when you view it face on and a few specks when looking through the stone, not really evident with normal wear. It is nice to find a closed back setting of this age that is not muddy or rusty.
The setting is sturdy. There are some tool marks to the back of the setting from when it was a brooch. Ready for regular wear.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
