ABOUT:
A cutie classic French antique halo ring with center natural sapphire surrounded by .6 carat of old mine cut diamonds. The small finger size makes it the cutest pinky ring although the prongs are quite good so this one could also handle a sizing.
Found in Paris, I can't decipher any hallmarks but tests at 18k gold. The sapphire has a beautiful true blue color.
Antique box / props not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size 2 1/2 - just slightly over, a small size, best to discuss with your local jeweler the extent to which they'd feel comfortable. The prongs are good which helps with sizing, usually they say within 2 sizes is easily doable but could perhaps handle more.
Weight 2.25 grams
Ring face is 11.8mm north south and 5.6mm tall off the finger.
The sapphire is 6.1x4.6mm.
The diamonds are each 2.5mm give or take for a total of around .6 carat total weight in diamonds, this is an estimate as I would not remove them.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Really excellent color and clarity to the natural sapphire, it is an impressive stone.
The sapphire has just a few flea bites and nibbles but a lovely color and is not dull, it is just seen when the surface facet edges are caught in a reflection of light. The diamonds are typical for the period for antique hand cut stones with some faint natural inclusions. I don't see any dark or glaring inky carbon but there some stones are pretty frosty throughout and one has a smattering of carbon in the crystal formation covering most of the stone. They are not huge stones so this is not really noticeable. A few indented natural inclusions that carry up to the surface.
I gave the ring a soak and a cleaning but there is a little bit of buildup remaining in the small openings around the edges of the stone.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
