ABOUT:
A fabulous rose cut and old mine cut diamond daisy cluster ring. I love this center stone, crystal clear with the slightest lean towards a pear shape which I delight in finding with these old hand cut stones. Not perfectly round because it was made before modern technology. Love to find rose cuts in open backed settings as well. And then in the halo we have twelve old mine cut diamonds for a mix of sparkle.
This one I purchased in Paris as a brooch. When I saw that cluster I immediately envisioned it as a ring so my friends at Collins Family Jewelers helped me with the conversion. The upside is knowing that the ring head has very little wear since it was a Victorian brooch, compared to a ring from the period. We made it using a salvaged also French 18k gold band which connects to the ring head.
The ring head cluster is backed in 18k gold, also French made with the pinched collet settings in silver. Perfect patina, wonderful sparkle.
So fun to have a mix of old cut diamonds on one piece!
Antique box is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
It's a snug size 7 - closer to 7 than to 6 3/4.
Ring head is 13.2mm in diameter.
Center diamond is 7.6x6.6mm, faces up at around 1.5 carat comparatively, but exact carat weight is much less with the flat back and weight unknown as I would not remove it.
The twelve omc's in the halo are 2.4mm each totaling about .7 carat.
It weighs 3.1g
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Slight warmth to the center stone, excellent clarity and condition.
Just one area of indented natural on the girdle edge of the more rounded part of the slightly pear shaped diamond.
No carbon but some frost in the old mine cuts. Shank is on the daintier side and with the fabrication of how the ring head is attached to the shank, so I wouldn't recommend daily wear.
Beautiful crimped collet settings, but the outlining diamonds also aren't very chunkily surrounded by silver so also that aspect not recommended for daily.
Underside is a bit edgy when you run it across the finger, fine when wearing but felt if rubbing which is another contributor to the not for daily wear recommendation - this is from the original setting of the ring head being on a brooch.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
