ABOUT:
My recent sourcing trip was to Spain in addition to France (where I go a few times a year). So this trip, I went with the intention of seeking out some of the traditional Iberian antique jewelry from Spain that is so special and popular now (not to mention difficult to find in the US).

These openwork dangle earrings are beautiful examples of the dangling bow and domed drops design of the late 1700s! With 67 natural emeralds in square and rectangular cuts in all 18k gold cut down collet settings. . And it's quite amazing to find these beauties in such wearable condition. The all over 18k gold has a gorgeous glow contrasting with the slightly varying hues of the gorgeous green emeralds. They are fabricated in three parts connected by loops to allow for movement on the ear.

Such an ornate and beautiful design, falling into the traditional / regional jewelry category for the period and the area. Found in Spain, with several old symbol hallmarks to the back that are no longer legible. Sold to me as 18k and tested to confirm.

Special / collectible antique pieces! The ear wires are hinged with a hooked end. They are inserted at the front of the ear, and then flipped downward where the hooked end clicks into a circular catch at the base of the top portion of the earring.

Antique Box IS Included! These old boxes are collectible and hold value. The box is not fitted for the earrings and is not original to the piece, but I am including it as a gift because it's always fun to store our antique goodies in period appropriate housing : ). The top of the box with the gold leaf tooling details is so pretty : )

Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos, especially with the zoomed images that I am required to present for detail.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

They dangle 43mm top to bottom, the widest part at the bow is 28mm

The pair weighs 7.9 grams combined.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

These Iberian pieces with their age of 250 years pretty much always have some evidence of their antiquity. So this pair is priced well for the market because there are two small emeralds missing on one earring and one replacement on the other. You can seek this out in the zoomed photos which will emphasize it much more than with normal wear, in truth when I bought them I didn't even notice at first.

We often see these with old solder marks and discoloration but the gold work is remarkably intact with no repairs or muddy blobs, no reinforcements or dark gray areas, their form is still exceptional. The hinged ear wires click into the catch and hold securely, but of course need patience and a gentle hand with their 250 year old hinges.
But - One earring is missing two emeralds, one at the very bottom of the top cluster (which tends to point downward while wearing to not be too glaring) and one on the inside edge of the left side bow / ribbon design (which just appears as a gold circle now and blends in with the design of the earring). I chose not to replace these because I felt that the empty bezel was less glaring while wearing than a repair could be, which may end up sticking out more than just wearing them as is. The other earring has a replacement at the top center that is paste and that isn't an exact match in hue to the antique emeralds but does the job of filling the space. Replacement stones could of course be found and adhered to blend it but I am selling them as is in their as found original condition.

As such they are priced accordingly with these age related quirks in mind. If they were perfect, they would indeed be thousands more, as collectible as these are. They are surprisingly still stable and wearable which is pretty unbelievable considering age. None of the other stones are loose or have any major damage, they surprisingly have a great sheen and polish, natural inclusions as expected but all stable. There are some shallow ripples to the domed backs not seen while wearing.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

All items hand picked by me, one at a time from all over the world. All listings individually written by me, and not AI, after studying each piece to discuss its beauties and its ; ) eccentricities (which I am picky to point out).

Many of my listings include group shots – I find the comparisons between pieces help show scale, diamond hues, etc. All items in group shots are inventory, but refer to the website to see what items have sold out and to watch for new listings from the grouping to appear on the home page.
