Rare ANTIQUE Perpignan GARNET Bee or Fly Bug Large Scale 18k Brooch Pin for Pendant Conversion Victorian French Belle Epoque Pink Red Glow

My next stock drop is an assortment of charms and pendants! Most of these I purchased on my inventory trips to Europe earlier this summer. A few of these are personal collection releases (wink wink to those of you who know about my garnet hoarding, floral, French, antique jewelry problem - whoopsie!)

This one was intended for my personal collection but after my trip to Perpignan France earlier this summer I realized I had a garnet hoarding problem so here we are. : /

My favorite stone in all the world - the Perpignan garnet! These special jewels are trademarked and made only in that area of Catalonia France. There have only ever been a small handful of makers in all the world at a time that were trained in the multi step process of creating these special pieces.

This one is Victorian era, or more appropriately called Napoleon III since it is French. Larger scale insect set with marquise, oval and round Perpignan garnets with the beautiful pinkish red color we see on the older pieces. It is in practically perfect condition since it was a brooch and gently worn.

Crafted in 18k gold with the old hallmarks used primarily in the 1800s and discontinued in the very early 1900s. Domed backs as per the customary fabrication, with reflective foil behind the stones to make the color so unique and special. It has a warm, rosy patina.

It is still currently a brooch and doesn't settle the best on a chain but it would make an awesome pendant. I only haven't converted it because I thought I'd leave it to the buyer to determine which direction they want it to face, etc. Or if they want to keep it as a brooch!

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

In excellent condition. No damage to report, just patina.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
