This one is quite the bauble! Nice size stones and attention grabbing sparkle to this French antique rose cut diamond cluster ring. These are difficult to find in open back settings - so often rose cuts are in foiled settings with closed backs. And many of these stones are quite clear, this one is a shooter of rainbows.

The French antique piece is in 18k gold with the diamonds set in I assume platinum tops as was customary for the period to set the stones in a white metal. The rose cuts vary in form, the center being a sort of oblong oval (?) and the outlining stones like little petals, being round to oval to a cushioned triangular shape. Freeform of course because they were hand cut! These with additional accents at the ring shoulders. Classic French design - the daisy cluster with raised shoulders and knife edge shank.

Super eye catching and very sparkly - a fun piece to wear! Varying depths to the diamonds - I just love the untamed organic feel of rose cut diamonds. Sometimes they can be a bit moodier or subdued in their sparkle (which we still adore!) but these are actually quite lively and fiery.

My last similar ring flew off the shelf so I am excited to offer this one with slightly larger stones as I am not often able to source them. Found in France with their antique period hallmark used primarily in the 1800s and discontinued by the very early 1900s. It's a worn / partial stamp but I have seen in approximately one million times tee hee ; ) so it is recognizable to me.

Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.

MEASUREMENTS:
Size 3 1/2. - very small. Makes an impactful pinky ring. The prongs are actually quite decent considering age so it should be sizable to an extent if you have a jeweler who is familiar with working on antiques. Best to discuss with the person doing the work to determine their comfort level as to the extent. This is one we wouldn't want to overwork, and a laser welder is usually preferred around the antique stones.

The ring face is 13.3mm north south and 7.5mm tall off the finger.

The center diamond is 5.8x6.3mm. The other six outlining diamonds are 4.5mm each give or take and 2mm at each shoulder.
Exact carat weight is unknown as I would never remove the stones from the antique setting. They are not all perfectly round and the depth of each is varied as some are sliced quite thin.
Like most rose cuts these have a lower comparative carat weight than a modern stone, but the surface area gives it the appearance of a larger carat stone. Well over 2.5 carats is how it "faces up" size wise as an estimation. With the stones being more thinly sliced, actual carat weight would be less but just giving you an idea of how it wears.

The ring weight is 3.6 grams.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
These rose cut clusters with open backs are difficult to find which is why I jumped on it when I saw it. With the open back and for the most part strong platinum prongs, it is ready for wear. However the diamonds' thinner girdle edges (the nature of rose cuts) show some wear due to the past 125+ years. If they were in better shape, I'd be listing this for more but I always study each piece and take all those things into account so please seek these notes out in the photos which zoom the stones much more than what would be seen to the eye while wearing.

The center stone has great prongs but the girdle edge is uneven and nibbled all the way around. It has some natural inclusions and appears a bit frosty as shown but the top side is glossy.

Some of the outlining diamonds are eye clean and others have again frosty inclusions. These are natural characteristics of the stone and likely have always appeared this way since the diamond disk was cut, so most of what is seen there is not damage. But two of the outlining diamonds have nibbles along the outside edge. It was priced with these nibbles and frosty reflections in mind.

They also have some frosted girdles and uneven and non uniform cuts. They most often look this way on rose cut pieces of this age. No dark or glaring inky or carbon spots. A worn prong here or there, but none of the stones move so this is something to keep an eye on over time.

Please also note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights any surface wear, scratches, abrasions, buildup or inclusions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : ) There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings including the green trees out the window.
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
