ABOUT:

Awesome antique cluster pendant featuring a center 2 carat glowing natural sapphire surrounded by a halo of ten old mine cut diamonds. The diamonds total about one full carat of chunky old cut glitter. This classic antique has a wonderful color and sparkle with the daisy cluster form.

It is quite delightful to see how the sapphire responds to light, (for some reason that sentence sounds like it was written by AI but I can promise you it was not : ). It presents as a very pretty light blue to true blue color that glows from within, and when studying it under lit magnification, displays rainbow iridescence on the top left side. You can google more about the rainbow iridescence phenomenon but I didn't find it really noticeable to the eye until studying it under magnification. Still, it was fun to behold as I have not found it all that often in the many sapphires I have sold over the years.

Milgrain details surround the diamond bezels and the sapphire is held securely in prongs. This one is sturdy for age and ready to be worn with no loose stones,

The setting is in 18k yellow gold topped in white gold or platinum as was customary for the period to set diamonds in a white precious metal (I do not scratch test prongs for fear of damage). As such, it can be worn with either a yellow or white gold chain.

Would be a beautiful something old and something blue for a bride.

Found in Sweden, no hallmarks remain but sold to me from a reputable partner and tested.

Antique boxes, chains, props in photos is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

Exact carat weight is unknown as I would not remove the stones but it was sold to me as 2 carats for the sapphire and 1 carat in diamonds. The sapphire is about 6.7mm with a nice dome to it, and the diamonds are about 2.8mm each give or take.

It measures 19mm top to bottom including the attached loop by 13.5mm east west and stands 7.5mm deep. It weighs 2.7 grams.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

The sapphire has three nicks with two deeper scratches. These can catch the light and be eye visible with some tiny chips included in those nicks. I hate to use the word "chip" because it makes it seem like the stone will appear cracked or uneven which it does not. It appears more as surface wear that can catch the light but overall has a lovely sheen and polish, an exceptional color and glow, and appears perfectly round with a nice dome. The photos with 20x zoom will show this and accentuate it more than it appears to the eye so please look for that. Some nibbles around the girdle as well, the stone has a nice clarity with no eye visible inclusions.

I don't prefer to grade my antique diamonds with the Four C's grading scale which came about way later for machine cut diamonds with mathematically perfected facets. The scale does not do antique stones justice as they were expertly hand cut in a much more limited supply compared to the millions of carats of machine cut diamonds made each year now. Their uniqueness and quirks are expected and part of their charm, but I will pass along the grades as I received them. Some of the stones were classified as "River" which is the finest (rarest) white / D-E in color (quite exceptional). The others range in the K-L color typical for antique stones as many stones from the period actually came from mines that produced warmer colored rough diamonds.

They are well matching to the eye, lively and sparkly, not dull or lifeless in any way. Some are VS in clarity, one has eye visible frostiness over part of the stone and one has an indented natural inclusion on the surface that appears as a frosty crease due to the diamond cutter's decision to polish around it and not risk damaging the stone. There are no dark carbon spots so nothing glaring, the majority of the stones' eccentricities are seen mostly under magnification. These variances between stones in multi stone pieces are typical, as no two antique diamonds are alike.

The stones are all secure in the sturdy but still elegant setting.

Please also note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights any surface wear, scratches, abrasions, buildup or inclusions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - PDue to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
