ABOUT:

Classic old mine cut diamond three stone band. Impactful and sparkly worn alone, and layers well with other bands. This one has a nice height to it with the diamonds propped up in the pronged setting. The stones are cushion cut, appearing slightly elongated / oval with the diamond at center slightly larger. Nice size stones totaling around 1.8 carat total weight in diamonds.

Found in England. The piece is crafted in 18k gold with an antique maker's stamp and assay marks for 18k, Birmingham, and I believe date stamp for 1921, although it is quite small and difficult to decipher.

A versatile diamond band!

Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and the pictures can make it difficult to see scale. Antique box is not included.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

Size 4 3/4 but should be sizable with the diamonds set in prongs and the hallmark off to the side. Best to discuss extent of sizing with your local jeweler who would be doing the work.

The largest center diamond is 6mm cushion cut and measures about .75 carat. The flanking diamonds are about 5.2 and 5.3mm cushion cuts and a little over half a carat each. I would not remove the stones for an accurate measurement but estimates to around 1.8 carat total weight in diamonds.

The piece weighs 4.4 grams. It stands 6.7mm off the finger. Ring face is 7mm wide north to south by 16.5mm east west measuring the diamond settings.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

I don't prefer to grade my antique diamonds with the Four C's grading scale which came about way later for machine cut diamonds with mathematically perfected facets. The scale does not do antique stones justice as they were expertly hand cut in a much more limited supply compared to the millions of carats of machine cut diamonds made each year now. These are typical antique stones with some slightly eye visible inclusions. Nothing glaring but one of the end stones has a single carbon spot and the other end stone has a smattering of much smaller carbon specks along with an indented natural inclusion leaving a tiny crease at the point of one of the side facets. The center stone has a higher clarity with only one very slightly eye visible inclusion when it can sometimes catch the light.

Also typical for the period, the end stones possess a slight warmth, which we see sometimes since the majority of rough stones during this period came from mines that produced warmer colored diamonds. This is consistently highlighted in direct sunlight. Some of this is due to how the side stones reflect the light differently because they are splayed slightly outward and do not "face up" like the center stone which is perfectly perpendicular from the ring face to the eye view. The center stone has a brighter white color - you may notice this on the photos/ videos if you are seeking it out.

The prongs are quite large and a bit blunt when you run your hand across the ring. A few are worn back as expected for each, but each stone is surrounded on all sides and the prongs aren't dainty so the stones are well held. One end stone moves slightly because one prong is a bit pulled away allowing it to teeter slightly. I always recommend gentler wear for all of my 100 year + old pieces due to age.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
