ABOUT:
I love antique garnets and this figural flower piece is so substantial and eye catching. It has a small loop at the stem to wear as a pendant, or it would be so beautiful as an extender or connector. I like to wear these with watch chain necklaces and sometimes hang additional charms or pendants from the pin post. It could also be permanently converted to a pendant with the pin post very easily nipped off since it already has a loop for pendant wear, or of course could still be worn as a brooch too!
The large oval cabochon orb is a natural garnet that is a delicious deep red berry coloring with a beautiful pinkish purple glow from within. The leaves and base of the flower are accented with rose cut diamonds for a wonderful antique sparkle.
The coloring is truly delicious. I got this one in Paris. It has a stamp on the post but I can't make it out. It also has what looks like a maker's initial stamp on the stem but it is also worn and not legible. The majority of the piece (bezel, stem, leaves, pin post) test at 14k. The pin catch tests at 10k probably for strength.
Antique box, props, chains, mice ; ) not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos, especially with the zoomed images that I am required to present for detail.
MEASUREMENTS:
It is 39mm end to end. It is 23mm wide at the widest from leaf to leaf. It weighs 4.65g
The large garnet is 19x10mm with a nice thickness / dome.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Note the small loop on the stem. If wearing as a pendant, a small jump ring may need to be added. Also with the pin back it kind of teeters so if planning to wear as a pendant, probably easiest to nip that off unless you want to keep it as a piece with several options for wearing.
There are a few deeper scratches to the garnet but overall it has a gorgeous sheen and polish aside from its fabulous color and glow. I always photograph these in direct sun to highlight the color but this also causes the scratches to catch the light and really appear a lot more glaring than with normal wear so please see all the photos. There are some dings and ripples and a little hole to the gold bezel around the base of the garnet but this is not seen while wearing unless you turn the piece to the side. Typical antique rose cuts with some freeform shapes, some nibbled girdle edges and unpolished areas, faint natural inclusions. They are small so nothing glaring and they provide a lovely sparkle.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
