ABOUT:
A classic early vintage to late antique Art Deco period bracelet with a unique flare! This one holds 33 old cut diamonds, each in a square setting that has a raised octagon ridge around each stone. A fun mix of bright sparkle with some geometry.
Sturdy hand feel, the perfect size to dress up or down. It has around 4.9 carats of old cut stones. The stones are a mix of old mine cuts, old European cuts and transitional cuts. Not at all uncommon to find a mix of stones during this period as jewelers used what was available to them and these old cut diamonds were cut in a much more limited supply.
As someone who has sold many antique diamond tennis bracelets over the years, I will say the footprint on this one seems to read larger than some of my more dainty 5 carat bracelets of the past - with the octagon bezels and the platinum outlines it has a chunkier appearance on the wrist compared to many daintier bracelets - see exact measurements below.
Very nice condition to this Art Deco period bracelet in bright platinum with an 18k white gold clasp and safety latch. It bears the French hallmarks for both, the gold symbol on the clasp and the platinum symbol in two places on the side of the bracelet. With no real ripples or deep dings and a very sturdy and firm hinge. No chips to any of the stones so it is in good condition for age. Bright and vibrant with all over sparkle.
Any props or additional items not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
MEASUREMENTS:
It doesn't lie flat to stretch end to end but measures a shade under 7 inches, not including the tongue insert which nests into the clasp and thereby does not add length.
Measuring 7.9mm north south and stands 3.2 to 3.9mm tall off the wrist, depending on the diamond crowns.
It weighs a very sturdy 23.1 grams.
Most of the diamonds are in the 2.9 to 3.9mm range, with a few over 4mm and a few that are 2.3 to 2.6mm. The largest stone is 4.8mm and measures about .45 carat. Varying depths and exact carat weight is unknown as I would not remove them but estimates to about 4.9 carats total weight in diamonds by my calculations. I did not calculate the depth of each stone and some are chunkier cuts, the reputable place I purchased it from estimated it to be 4.9 to 5.2 carats total weight in diamonds.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
The push button clasp works perfectly and snaps very securely into place.
Typical old cut diamonds with some slightly varying hues here and there, but overall well matching. None appear dingy or lifeless and the piece as a whole is fiery with amazing glitter factor. This was made long before the "Four C's" scale was invented for modern machine cut diamonds with their mathematically perfected facets. The modern grading scale for diamonds doesn't typical do justice to the uniqueness of these stones that were hand cut with methods and standards no longer practiced in a much more limited supply.
As such, many of the stones have some natural inclusions typical for antique stones. One stone is a bit milky and several appear frosty overall, they are not huge stones so it is not glaring but the inclusions are seen when studying it. A few have a carbon spot or a smattering of carbon but again this does not jump out at you while wearing as they are seen more with a loupe. The rest with more slightly eye visible frosty speck inclusions. None of the diamonds are chipped or cracked with loss - they all fill the bezels and have retained their original shape.
There is some dark patina inside the setting on one end. Two of the stones there are a bit smaller than the others so it's possible they are replacements although they are old mine cuts and the bead prongs match those on the rest of the piece.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
