Art Deco Antique 1.15 Carat Single Old Mine Cut DIAMOND Dangle Pendant French 18k White Gold Platinum
Art Deco Antique 1.15 Carat Single Old Mine Cut DIAMOND Dangle Pendant French 18k White Gold Platinum
ABOUT:
A geometric and sparkly French antique dangle drop pendant with an old mine cut diamond measuring just under a carat in a prong setting with a trail of five additional old mine single cut diamonds leading up to the bale. With each bezel and prong setting independently connected by loops, it allows a wonderful movement and ability to dangle, to catch the light and sparkle. French antique piece, the milgrain detail on the bezels adding to the beautiful Edwardian to Art Deco design of the piece. A classic antique that remains on trend and timeless in design 100 years later!
The piece is crafted in 18k white gold and platinum. The pronged setting for the largest diamond serves as an illusion setting surrounding the diamond in white metal to make it appear even larger - one of the tricks of the trade! : ). The largest diamond is nearly eye clean with just one indented natural inclusion on the underside pavilion facets. It appears as a frosty crease and can sometime catch the light and be eye visible when looking through the stone, but it is otherwise in excellent condition with good clarity otherwise, especially considering it is an antique stone. The prongs prop up the stone to allow the light to pass through so it has excellent sparkle.
Found in France but no hallmarks remain. Sold to me as 18k white gold and platinum from a reputable dealer.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Chain / props, etc. not included.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
The diamond is about 6 to 6.2mm and just under one carat - this is an estimate as I would not remove it for exact weight. The five smaller diamonds are 1.5 to 2mm each totaling about another .15 carat.
The pendant in bezel setting is 8.4mm in diameter and 5.3mm deep off the decollette propped up in the prongs. It dangles 27mm from top to bottom / a little over an inch.
Weight: 1.7g
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
I don't prefer to grade my antique diamonds with the Four C's grading scale which came about much later for machine cut diamonds with mathematically perfected facets. The scale does not do antique stones justice as they were expertly hand cut to enhance each individual, one of a kind stone, and these stones are in a much more limited supply compared to the millions of carats of machine cut diamonds made each year now. Their uniqueness and quirks are expected and part of their charm, but I will pass along the grades as I received them of J/K color and VS in clarity.
See note above about the one indented natural inclusion on the underside of the stone. GIA defines this as a dent that occurs under the surface of a diamond as a result of the diamond cutter's decision not to polish it off, because doing so could end up harming the diamond so the cutters would work around it - this is not considered a defect or blemish but under strong magnification it looks like a frosty crease. Some faint inclusions to the smaller five diamonds, a frosty spot here and there seen under magnification as they are quite small.
The diamonds have no damage, set very sturdily in the long prongs and milgrain bezels so she is ready to wear. I can see a bit of verdigris under strong magnification to only one spot of the small loops connecting the five bezel set diamonds. It is not at all visible while wearing and is hidden within the bezels but this is the result of the aging of the alloys used in the solder to connect each loop to itself (rather than leave a seam on the link which can bend open). The entirety of the piece is white gold and platinum with the exception of that tiny speck on each hidden link that again is not seen while wearing, but I always describe every little thing I see under magnification and to assure you that the piece is solid gold / platinum otherwise : ).
Note that the bale is on the smaller side.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
