ABOUT:

A classic antique diamond solitaire. This one is from the Art Deco period with a transitional cut diamond measuring a little over 0.8 carat. It is set in an ornate crown like setting. Also exciting to find that it is ready for daily wear with prongs in good shape.

Found in the UK, it is hallmarked for and crafted in 18k yellow gold and platinum. The prongs are the platinum portion as it was customary to set diamonds in a white metal.

I don't prefer to grade my antique diamonds with the Four C's grading scale which came about later for machine cut diamonds with mathematically perfected facets. The scale does not do antique stones justice as they were cut in a much more limited supply compared to the millions of carats of machine cut diamonds made each year now. Their uniqueness and quirks are expected and part of their charm, but I will pass along the grades as I received them of approximately J/K, clarity approximately SI2/SI3. I always study and describe my stones in detail so more notes below. : )

Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

It is a size 8. It weighs 2.3grams.
The diamond is 6.1mm and measuring a little over 0.8 carat. It faces up a bit larger than that as well which is always fun. I do not remove my stones from antique settings for exact measurements so this is an estimate.

It stands 5.3mm tall off the finger.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Ready for regular wear. The prongs are all double / forked in platinum so even though one or two show slight wear, the others hold the stone well.

There is one interruption to one of the sloping details of the ring face, in the platinum below the stone where a gap appears, it was likely worn stacked and rubbed thin in that area so there is loss to the pattern in the one small spot but the ring face is still completely stable and ready to wear.

Faint natural inclusions typical for the period. Under magnification and in some situations while studying it, the frosted girdle that we seek out for period stones (to confirm authenticity) can sometimes reflect in the stone. There is a smattering of carbon but this is seen more from the underside of the setting as it is deeper in the pavilion. Some faint frosty wisp inclusions that can also reflect around and can catch the light. No large inky spots, it is a lively stone with a wonderful sparkle.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

Thanks so much for looking at my items!
