ABOUT:
Lovely Victorian antique French silver plated slide locket with Art Nouveau design on the cover depicting cherries. The lid is reticulated so a bit of the photo background can show through. It is deep on the back side so it could hold a lock of hair or pressed flowers too. Originally a chatelaine item I assume. It would make a beautiful pendant worn on your favorite chain and it's useful too! Would make a unique and lovely gift as well.
The back of the piece is smooth. In the back cover of the inside is a small removable metal frame and glass pane that you can pull out to remove the glass and photo and insert your own keepsake.
The piece measures about 1 1/4 inches high to the loop and 1 inch wide. .
MARKS:
No hallmarks, it is a silverplated item.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned with some age to them so they are in estate condition. Riveted hinge is still tight so the cherry cover slides left and right without flipping. A few areas of silver plate loss where the warmer underlying metal shows through on the raised cherries - no chips dings or dents. A few scuffs and areas of stubborn tarnish but I like patina on my antique pieces. Plenty of years left in this old, unique piece.
