Awesome French Antique 18g 18k GOLD Solid NECKLACE Book CHAIN Scalloped Panels 1cm Wide Chunky Ornate Victorian

As I type this I am zipping across Sweden in a high speed train! I'm on my next jewelry sourcing adventure and my mom is traveling alongside me. This chain is from a previous trip but I had photographed and studied it and assembled the details before leaving America so I thought I'd work on the listing while I have some down time on the train. (Technology these days, amirite?)

Gorgeous movement to this eye catching French antique Victorian period book chain necklace. The wide flat links are scalloped with open work detail and slightly overlap each other, allowing the piece to fan out and curve gracefully around the neck. The smooth flat links catch the light giving the chain an unbelievable shimmer and sparkle - it's so beautiful to wear, substantial enough to stand alone but also layers well.

This piece is crafted 18k solid gold (not plated or gold filled), which has a warm and rich, buttery glow to the antique gold, so sought after since it can't be found on modern gold.

Found in France with their hallmark for 18k gold on the back and a goldsmith stamp on the tongue insert of the clasp. Three of the links also have the French control mark for 18k gold, as was customary for the period to mark the chain every certian amount of centimeters to indicate the entire piece as 18k solid gold.

Antique boxes / items in displays in photos are not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.

MEASUREMENTS:
Would you believe I forgot to stretch it end to end for a measurement before leaving America? I am guessing it is around 17 inches as the more round chain I photographed it with is a little over 18 inches and this one is a bit shorter.
It weighs a sturdy 18.4g. Each little fanning link is 9.5mm wide / gauge.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
There is a safety chain with a hook on the end. It doesn't have a loop on the opposite side but it can be hooked on to one of the openings in one of the book chains on the other side. This is not a defect, it was how it was made, but thought I'd mention it.

The tongue insert was attached by two wide straps of gold, one is cracked / broken but the other is a wide band of gold that wraps around and it is thick and sturdy so it has a long long way to go before it could come free. I showed this in the photos but considering that most chains are attached to the clasps by much smaller loops of gold than this one which has the very wide strap, it is definitely still wearable and good to go. This is not at all seen while wearing, but it could also be easily welded by your local jeweler if ever desired, but again, the one side being detached does nothing to affect its stability or wearability.
There are some small ripples from little curves to the fanned flat chain links, but they are gradual. No sharp dings dents, no punctures. These things are typical for a piece of this age but please seek that out in the photos and videos.

Some surface wear and scratches that can catch the light due to the glowing, shiny mirrored finish, Lovely color. Amazing to wear.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
