ABOUT:

I've been getting more and more requests for bezel set old mine cuts and this is one of my larger ones to date with the center bright white and fiery antique hand cut diamond measuring around 1.4 carat. The sturdy wide band setting has ribbed details at each shoulder leading up to the raised chunky bezel. Despite its drama and bit of height, this is a very comfortable one to wear with the diamond flush mounted into the setting which has rounded gold work on the bezel and edges of the shank. Won't catch on clothing, and still quite impactful.

It's a beautiful stone with a special setting to match, with its timeless details and gorgeous 18k gold glow. I'm not positive when this was made. The stone is an old one but the setting may be later vintage. Found in France with a goldsmith stamp and their hallmark for 18k gold.

These diamond bands are always very popular in the shop. This one could be considered unisex as these rings are popular with men and women. The gypsy ring was incredibly popular during the Victorian era into the early 1900s and its timeless design remains an ever favored and wearable choice for today. This ring is substantial enough to wear alone but also layers well with other pieces.

Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Size 6 3/4 on my mandrel. The ring face 8.6mm north south. The shank is wide all the way 4.7mm af the shoulders tapering slightly to 4mm at the back. It is 4.8mm tall off the finger. It weighs 6.7 grams.

I do not remove my stones from their antique settings for exact measurements but the diamond measures about 7mm with a nice depth. Thickness of the girdle can't be viewed, nor can the exact diameter of the stone which is encased in the bezel and extends further an unknown amount but estimated carat weight is about 1.4 carat.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
All antique hand cut diamonds of course have a more limited supply since they are no longer made in this way. There are only so many in existence compared to the millions of carats of modern machine cut diamonds made every year. These have withstood the test of time. This one is typical in that it does have some natural inclusions - a few needles, an area of crystal inclusions that has a smattering of carbon, and a cavity inclusion that has a bit of warmth to it. The stone was cut well to mask some of these, but these are slightly eye visible. They can catch the light but to my eyes which are in their forties, I do not find them glaring and see them more under magnification than with normal wear. They would be visible if seeking them out.

As mentioned these things are typical - It is a shame when antique hand cut diamonds are considered to have "imperfections" when comparing them to mass produced modern machine cut diamonds with mathematically perfected facets. These were hand cut by experts to accentuate their best qualities and any quirks or eccentricities are actually expected and accepted as a part of their one of a kind charm! The bezel setting always affects how these stones reflect the light compared to one that is raised in prongs but this stone is not dingy or lifeless in any way. What it has in inclusions it makes up for in other ways - It has a brighter than most white color for age and a wonderful fire to the stone. Feel free to request more videos and check out my website for more images as I also have it in some group shots which will help you see the stone comparatively to other antique diamonds.

The stone does move in the bezel, not east to west but up and down so it can rattle a bit when you shake the piece aggressively. The stone is not going anywhere, being encapsulated on all sides by the large and sturdy bezel. No damage, no nibbles, no nicks, no chips.

My items do very well without paperwork so I have not sent the stone for certification but always provide as much detail as possible with measurements, condition notes and many extra photos (see website) to capture it true to life in various lighting conditions, which can be translated to grading scales if desired.

The inside edge of the bezel is a bit blunt when you rub your finger across it. I notice this more when off the hand than while wearing, I find it quite comfortable to wear even tightly on the finger. Some surface wear to the gold setting but it has a wonderful patina with a buttery glow from the recesses of the design and a slightly warmer patina to the raised areas. It's beautiful.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
