ABOUT:
This antique brooch reminds me of an old school piece of candy. You know those butterscotch ones in grandma's candy dish in the 80s?
At the center is a large glowing blue moonstone which has rose cut diamond settings that fan out on each side like the wrapper. It is affixed to a safety pin.
No hallmarks but all parts test at 14k gold.
This is currently a whimsical brooch but could also be used as a connector on the ends of a chain, or converted as desired to a pendant by your local jeweler. I was able to style it with a chain in photos but it does swivel or teeter some as it doesn't want to lie perfectly flat on the decollette with the pin back - but hopefully it gives you an idea of how it would look. Chain not included. Some hook a chain to each end and then use the pin post to run additional dangling charms along the back as a two for one pendant / charm holder. It can also be worn as an extender. Plenty of ways to wear so I will leave it to the buyer to determine their preference.
The good thing about it being a brooch is that it is in better than most condition with little wear so that is the trade off when it comes to conversions, as brooches usually end up in about as good condition as can be found on antique jewelry, compared to rings and pendants that show more wear.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Some of my buyers "draw out" an example to get an idea of scale in person. They are always smaller in real life than they appear in photos due to the zoom photos I am required to show.
Antique Boxes, props, chains, bannisters, mice : ) not included.
MEASUREMENTS:
35mm end to end.
Weight: 4.2 grams.
The moonstone is about 13mm.
The diamonds are 3 to 3.5mm each.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Pin back is nice and springy, functions well. One diamond is an old mine cut but it does not appear to be a replacement as it fits the setting well while the other side has a rose cut at center that is larger. This appears to be a case where, as common in the antique period, the jeweler used what was available to them, as the settings all fit the stones. Typical antique diamonds with some natural inclusions, frosty spots, they are small so it is not very evident. Closed back setting with a bit of cloudiness around the rim but the moonstone has an amazing sheen and polish and a wonderful blue glow.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
Striking to wear with the figural shape.
